reputable lawyer E Cyprus

Postby pamandpaul88 » Fri Feb 09, 2007 12:19 am

we are buying a home in the Paralimni area and have been recommended a lawyer by an agent who says he is very good.

obviously, don't want to mention names yet, but he's in the same area.

has anybody else a name of a lawyer, or company, who they have dealt with and everything went very well ??

i know this is opening a can of worms but we want to get a reliable reputable lawyer because we have heard some horror stories.

also, we know that a lot of lawyers will be working in conjunction with the developers and agents and are not independant.

and today i was told of a situation where a vendor bought a house, on a plot of land owned by a Turkish Cypriot, forced off it by the separation.

when the free movement started, the person returned to find a house built on his land, reclaimed the land, (he had the title deeds), and the buyer lost the house.

They were not entitled to any money back because they had bought very probably through a builder, who had never had the deeds to the land, and, most probably the lawyer who drew up the contract wasn't legal or even a real lawyer !!! ???

we don't want to lose everything by making the wrong decision on a lawyer.

Apparently, a good lawyer will find exactly who owns the land and ensure the legality of the builder, developer, agent, to sell the house.

advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

thank you

Hi,

I am currently having a terrible time with pittadjis law firm in paralimni. In my experience they have proven to be totally incompetent.

They can sue me for this if they like, there is nothing i want more than to be up in court telling of there bullshit service. TV crews would be all over the place.

So find yourself someone else is my advice.

Happy shopping.

I have been told never to use the lawyer proposed by the agent. If there was a problem who do you think the lawyer would be loyal to - the agent that sends them business or you?

I am using a really thorough and unbiased lawyer but she's in Limassol. Happy to PM her details but it may be too far away?

When buying property in Cyprus, it is absolutely essential that you take expert, independent legal advice and agree lawyers fees before you start looking for property.

If you are buying from a property developer or estate agent, you will have a better chance of getting independent advice if you choose a lawyer whose office is in a different town.

Do not sign any papers or hand over any money until you have sought advice from an independent lawyer with whom you can communicate effectively.

Under absolutely no circumstances should you use a lawyer who has been introduced or recommended to you by a vendor, agent or developer.

I'll send you a PM with independent lawyers.

Regards,
