But as the virus mutated after being given a complete kicking by your white blood cells, it would be reborn in a new form because it copies the DNA of your cells hoping your immune system won't spot it.

You are immune to it in its present strain, but you are now are a carrier and everywhere you go you will spread it as long as you breathe. You will kill millions and when you are re-infected, you will die because your white blood cells and lymph glands will not recognize it as a threat.

As the pandemic ensues, modern civilization breaks down. All movement is stopped in an effort to contain infection and strangely enough the more primitive the society the less chance of transmission.

Eventually the virus will mutate and loose its efficency having wiped out millions. But by then countries, kingdoms and borders will be no more to the survivors.

Which virus are you talking about rawk? This H5N1?

I thought it was interesting about Ebola that it is not a particularly ruthless virus, because it kills to quickly and so an outbreak is more easily contained - everyone gets sick and dies before the virus has a chance to spread.

And also, some people believe HIV is to advanced - to much of a natural progression, the way it works - to have occurred naturally and conspiracy theories are that it was escaped from a secret biological warfare experiment gone wrong, etc.

Interesting stuff, conspiracy theories. They can never be disproved!
Remember, as I always say: just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you! ;)

No conspiracy theories.

Virus are tricky little bastards, they are as evolutionary as old as us and in the words of Mr whateverhisnamewas in the Matrix film, the human race copies their penchant for taking over a habitat, killing off all the opposition by breeding like shite and invading their enviroment and eventually destroying the host body (the earth) by its activities.

Modern western civilizations are incredible vulnerable to any form of disruption, especially loss of movement and supply systems.

How many meals does it take one person to miss before he or she descends to savagry?

What affect would a pandemic have on western europe with its millions dependant on food supply when the infrastructure collapses and the dead lie unburied?

Ever read "The Stand" by Stephen King?

Can't remember who said that in the Matrix, unless it was Agent Smith you mean? As in the one who said things like "we meet again, Mr. Anderson..." to Neo?

That's another doomsday theory isn't it (apologies for the misspelling in this context on the last post): the fact that civilisation is too dependant on too few a number of farmers/organisations for food supply, and a small thing happening to disrupt that could lead to world chaos and mass starvation.

Anyway, this is all beginning to sound like an episode of BBC's Horizon programme, so I'll quit while I'm behind ;)

The only virus I am concerned with right now is a 'Trojan Horse' which is incarcerated somewhere in my P.C.

How to get rid of it I ask?.

Eliko you were close to me (you could have called in for a glass of something!) and I also know a couple of people who work at Bernard Matthews. Major damage limitation going on with their PR agency right now.

I also heard Bernard did a bit of a cover-up after hearing about the outbreak in Hungary before the birds were exported by not reporting it, keeping his fingers crossed obviously wasn't enough. I'm pretty sure there may be a few (hundred) redundancies in the company now.

Niki2410, I think the whole situation will soon become a major concern among the politicians, there has been so much under-handedness throughout these outbreaks, it is virtually impossible to believe anything you read in the newspapers, unfortunately, such is the case with most information released to the general public on ANY subject. :? :? :? :? :?

Also a case of "it'll never happen to me" with the affected companies.

Of course who can say why the government are so cagey about these outbreaks. The problem is people come to their own conclusions so being cagey is more damaging than if the government had been open.
