Storm yesterday...

Postby orokliniservices » Sun Feb 04, 2007 8:05 pm

Anyone else get any water damage?

Our lounge windows had water just pouring from them, quite obviously the property developers have not properly sealed them.. water in our electric (blew all lights in kitchen/lounge) and our underground car park is under 4 inches of water... this car park also houses the storage units for the flats which have over 10 boxes of our stuff along with a bed etc all now completely saturated with water..

Yesterdays weather was nuts..

Who was the developer? Reason I ask is because we are soon to have a property built and if the devloper is the same as yours, we will look out for that problem.......... sounds like a horrendous down pour!

I'm afraid it is all too common to have problems with a newly built property, particularly from developers in Cyprus bulk-building these places. Saying that, new build houses in UK often suffer similar problems. And I am afraid that, once you have paid up and moved in and they have your money, it takes an awful lot of effort to get things resolved :(.....

A natural problem with unaccountable, big companies. Give me the small, family run firm any day of the week, with some DIY thrown in.

You mean you don't usually allow you dog in the kitchen? Our dog is allowed to go where he likes (except upstairs) and he shows his appreciation by taking me for walks and eating my food cos he knows too much is bad for me, he even gets out of my chair when he sees that I want to sit down and a few drops of rain would not bother him, he loves rolling in deep muddy puddles (but he hates being hosed down)!

OK, let me chip in on this one, as I run a weather site at http://www.cypenv.org/weather/

The day before yesterday registered 49.8 mm at my location. Be warned that this kind of precipitation is not at all unusual in Cyprus. There have been extreme cases of storms (often in Nicosia, but in any of the localities) of more than twice this in quite short times, say 2 hours. Saturday's rain was therefore not exceptional, in any way, so be prepared to ensure your builder takes the necessary steps to prevent a repetition of the problem.

Today's weather is mild; from 0400 to 0800, it averaged only 4 mm/h, since 0800, it has dropped to ~1.5 mm/h, totalling 18,6 mm at the time of writing (0950). This has brought us to the grand total of 246.8 mm for the wet season. Still FAR too little to avoid problems. We need another 10 days like Saturday before we can sleep on both ears.
