cypriot bosss?

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Postby dms007 » Mon Feb 05, 2007 2:02 pm

when I spoke with my future employer on the phone few times ,he seems to be a bit strange ,I mean ..quit friendly BUT he said I m very beautiful etc

no true professional would do that whether he is cypriot or not. he seems to be sleazy.
think about it, he has started harassing you even before you are his employee.

Is it risky?

you should know better, we do not know the entire phone converstation. you have worked in several places and i think you would be able to take hints. you know better, if you feel bad, back out before it is too late. sun and sand and surf should not be a reason to get your life ruined.

Sure it wasn't lost in translation? gay used to mean happy. now it's never used that way. Beautiful can mean kind and nice. surely you can see what kind of person he is from the rest of the interview? use your judgment....

Hello janea -- that's why I asked the question "where are you from".

I half guessed from your name that it was more than likely you were from Eastern Europe -- You are quite right in thinking that some Cypriot guys have a preformed opinion of Eastern European girls as cabaret girls and nothing else.
To be quite honest from what you have written it seems like your new employer is of that opinion -- so you should think very carefully about accepting the job.

I know of a very pretty Ukrainian girl that came to Cyprus as a bar worker last year and it was only when she started work she realised that she was supposed to "entertain" the customers as well.

There is a thought amongst some Cypriots that being a girl from Eastern Europe automatically means you are or willing to be a prostitute.

My nephew is married to a very nice Russian girl and when he first told his parents about her they cried for days and kept saying he had brought disgrace on the family as everybody would think he was about to marry a prostitute.

That was four years ago and the family still do not treat her like a daughter in law and are often quite rude to her .

She used to spend a fair bit of time around at my home practising her English language until she was warned that it looked like she was having an affair with me and everybody was talking about it -- I even have to be careful not to talk to her too much when I visit my nephews house as they live with his parents and they complain .

It's going to be some time before attitudes change in Cyprus regarding foreigners from the Eastern bloc.

I wish you the best of luck Janea -- but be careful -- it's not a nice world out there sometimes.

Bill

Yes I see
Tess the job is design, adds ,marketing -this field.

I understand Bill , I have heard this ,fortunatelly didnt had such problems maybe I had luck that the social envirnoment I have been is more lets say "open minded and wide thinking ppl"
But I know they think this way ,haha I have heard one cypriot mother been to visit her son here in sofia and she was surprise we have and drink coca cola here. And i know others many funny stories.

Also I think that ...there is a difference between bg and russians for example etc,do not want to offend someone but I think we r diffenrent.
Pitty about that story for the russian girl if she is really nice person, it was interesting to heard this.

Did he say it just once as compliment or he made a whole discussion about it? If it is the second then forget about that company! If it is the first then it depends. It might be OK but it might not.
