The hitchiker's guide to the galaxy series, probably you mean, which determined that the answer to life, the universe & everything was 42 and that the question was IIRC "what do you get if you multiply 6 by 9?".

But that question is not the same as "what is the meaning of life?" (if we are getting deep into philosophy here )
