First Holiday to Cyprus .....

Postby Dark Hero » Sat Feb 03, 2007 12:52 am

I have just booked a surprise holiday for my partner so obviously I want it to be nice and special. We are staying at the Tasia Maris Gardens. My concern is, after reading some of the posts on this forum, the reputation that Aiya Napa has. We are going for 1 week June 17th. We do like a good, lively night out, but our 'dancing on the tables days' and being around 'drunken louts' are over. I was hoping to be in a quietish area, but close enough to the night life if and when we needed it. Would we be better going to Protaras at night ? How far is it from where we are staying ?

Thanks for reading, any info will be much appreciated :)

Protaras is not as crazy as Ayia Napa. Maybe it will be better for you. Protaras is about 15 minutes drive from Ayia Napa.

Thanks for the quick reply :) What time does it start to get crazy in Aiya Napa ? Is it possible to miss some of the madness by going out early ? Is there any nice bars for the over 40's ?

8) dont be too alarmed D H ..i spent an evening with my wife there last Sept. There are some great restaurants and bars and the atmosphere was good natured, (check out the slingshot ride) and great for people watching. We left around midnight - i would imagine it gets a bit crazy from around one onwards...i really enjoyed the evening, and im a wee bit over the age you mentioned... :)

I think Ayia Napa's reputation is a little inaccurate. It certainly is a lively place - particularly in July and August, but the "action" is restricted to one area - many of the streets around Napa remain fairly quiet. Also the party tends to be starting when us grown ups are going to bed, so I actually think you'll be fine.

June will still be relatively quiet (compared to July & Aug), but as someone has already said, Protaras is a short bus / taxi ride away and is somewhat more subdued.
