Well after reading the coments on inter marriages, I suggest that there i such an entrenched racism that we might as well leave thinsg as they are. I am really saddened by the posts. Have we lost sight of humanity?????

In theory yes, but its a very unlikely scenerio...I met a GC lady who said she would rather kill her son than him marry a TC girl, so this line of thought is on both sides and very common, I to would be very disappointed if my children married a GC. So Talat is not alone in his thought.

But why,Viewpoint? Why would you be disappointed? If they were in love and they truly wanted to be with each other,why should you not bless them?I really don't think you are a racist person. And you have agreed in theory that interbreeding would end Cypro. So why would you object?

You don't believe that old "pure Turkish blood" stuff,do you?
You are aware that biologically we are more similar to the GCs than Turks?So what is the problem?

Being a Turkish Cypriot makes me proud and special, and the continuation of this community is really a duty that all TC should acknowledge and try to continue, luckily one of my children has married a TC and the others will follow. I just don't associate myself with anything Greek although I do not have anything against GC or Greeks I would feel just as disappointed if my children married a French man or Italian etc but at the end of the day its their choice.

Not if I and other TCs and GCs have anything to do with it. You Bir are a lost TC in the UK you have become diluted I know this well as I know very many TC families who have lost their children into a sea of mixed marriages you daughter marries a Jamaican and has a child what does that child become? that child marries a Russian what does their child become? You have no sense of belonging or need you are lost in a wilderness of a bastardized race but hey you don't give a shit so no problemo. But I have to add it sadens me when you do not care about either your Turkish Cypriotism or Cypriotism alone, your line will die out the moment your children fall in love and have a mixed marriage, does it not sadden you? Please save me the as long as they happy crap, they can also be happy being married to a TC and having TC children...we need as many as we can so 5 6 7 would be good.

VP , I have been with my English wife since 1963 , my Son is with an English girl and my daughter is married to a G/C .I do understand however your comments on mixed marriages and the inevitable dilution of your ethnicity , more so when Europeans / Asians / Africans etc.
The fact of the matter is that the Cypriot race consists mainly of G/Cs and T/Cs , no Africans , Jamaicans Asians etc. As Bir said , give mixed Cypriot weddings 30 years and our Cyprob is for ever solved . What we must all realize is that the T/Cs as well as the G/Cs are so besotted and proud of their perceived motherlands , the Greeks will tell you about the glory of Greece , the arts , theatre , philosophers , democracy which was invented in Greece , and the T/Cs will tell you about the glory of the Ottoman empire that stretched from Asia Minor to all of Europe , they will tell about the achievements of the founder of Turkey and his vision for his country.At the end of the day WE ARE CYPRIOTS , we never gave the world philosophers , great artists or great statesmen, but we gave the entire world the Cyprus potatoes , best in the world , the great halloumi or hallim , Souvla , kebabs and not forgetting the Cypriot hospitality unrivalled the world over.

I must say that I did not take this thread seriously but it is showing to be an emotive subject.

I personally have no problem with who ever my children marry or if they are gay or not. I am not their ruler. What I do not want for them though is the problems that interracial marriage will bring especially in the case of GC and TC. The situation at the moment is that they will be torn between wanting to please both sides and that is not fair on them.

You have also failed in this and once you have passed away there will no trace of Greek Cypriotism or even the Cypriotism dream that you promote. Is that what you wanted? Your arguments for a Cypriot people sounds pretty pointless now when you yourself have done nothing to support or nurture "Cypriotism" ideology you claim to love.

Okey,we have a philosopher in Zeno,and we have a Psychiatrist in Dr Vamik Volkan (a TC),and we have Dr Kypros Nicholaides,a noted gyneachologist...Come on people.there must be more notable Cypriots over times to discover..go for it.
