Be prepared mate cause when you work in a Greek Cypriot house you will get what you are getting on this forum. Every body from the dog to the grandmother will be telling you how to do your job and they will all argue amoungst themselves aswell. Don't worry too much though because you will also be well fed.

Hello Ivor

Hey thats really cool cause I love oranges!!

It was great to talk to you on the phone earlier, I will definetley call again soon.

All I can say is our household in Wales tonight is extremely exited on the propspects of moving to Cyprus.

We hope to possibly come to Cyprus around the tail end of february and if your about hopefully meet up, I will be hiring a car so travelling is no problem.

We will only be there for 3-4 days due to manic workload in the UK, but hopefully plenty of time to sort a few things out.

Speak to you soon

queenslander wrote:Yes the exams are done in english but they are translated from greek and the reference material (in the exam)they provide is in greek, so it is a hard slog to get though it and it will show in you results and keep in mind some of the questions asked are local so if you dont have local experience it will make it even harder. the last time the did exams here was last week the time before that was 2005 and before that was 1999 the only reason they tested so quickly was the the exam in 2005 that all sparks here had to take most failed so they delayed the implemention of the 16 th edition depending on the outcome of the last test it may be 5 years before they test again

What body is the regulator over there. NICEIC in the UK. What sort of sparks are these unlicenced ones that can't even do a bit of house bashing. They can't be sparks at all. Can it really be harder than getting into the NIC over here and do the new building regs apply?

the regulating body is EMS and the exams are only difficult because of the translation (providing you know your trade of course) the unlicenced ones that i have come across are mainly english that come an set up shop because they think it is unregulated and when it comes time to connect they find out they cant and do a runner (usually taking the drawings with them) Yes the new building regs apply here and cyprus uses the TT system so there are differences to the UK You will find a lot that are not only electricans but they are also a plumber, builder, concreter and just about any other trade you can think of!
