Glossy or Matt Floor tiles ?

Postby k'n'G » Sun Jan 28, 2007 9:57 pm

Hi - we are new members and need your help, we are having an apartment built in Oroklini and our developer has just told us that he is about to start the tiling of the floors and bathrooms in two weeks time, we were told that we would be able to choose our tiles from a selection but it now seems that all the apartments will have the same unless we want to pop over and shop for our own, It is impossible for us to get over at such short notice the build is very ahead of schedule and our next visit is in April too late for the tiles! Our problem is that we like the very Glossy tiles for the flooring we want a very modern look but our developer warns that they are slippery and scratch easily he suggests Matt finish, We wonder if it is just easier for him and cheaper or if there is some foundation he what he is saying, could we please have the benefit of your experience as we are new to tiles and Cyprus .Many Thanks for your help.

Hi k'n'g, I have the very high gloss tiles in my flat here in Oroklini and to be honest, sometimes I can't stand them! They show every smudge (espeically if you walk around in bare feet) every bit of dust (which you will get a lot of in Oroklini) and yes, the developers are correct they are extremely slippery.
I'm not saying think twice about getting them, because yes they do look very nice and everyone who comes over always comments on how nice my floors look. They're just a little harder to maintain cause they show everything.

definetely Matt in my opinion
hate gloss on anything.....
gloss will reflect all the dust and there is loads of that in Cyprus....matt is more appealing anyway......gives a more comfort feeling
I persoanlly hate tiles ...love floorbaords

I have matt tiles in my place -- the house monster ( the wife ) wanted to change them to glossy ones BUT after asking around we found that most people that have them can't stand them and she changed her mind.

I think you should always go with what is practical and durable instead of what just looks nice. A home is something you want for the long term not something that will always stay perfectly clean to look at it. So I vote for matt also :)

Its not rocket science, if you use a gloss tile it will be slippery and if you use matt it will not. So use gloss on the wall (as less things can stick to glossy, including yourself, they will be easier to clean) and on the floors that can (or will) be wet use matt so you don't slip and break you neck

I loathe the shiny floor tiles as they are lethal when wet...

I think you have made the right decision
