I dont believe i have a closed mind about GCs, i have nothing against them as a nation, religion, ethics, philosophy, culture, etc. but none of this means that i feel a part of them, we are just different, i did not grow up side by side with GCs like you have, almost no one in my generation has, unless they live abroad like you and engage with them on a daily basis.
Why is it so hard to understand that i seriously find it difficult to affiliate myself with the GC on the basis of nationality. I believe i did say to you, either 1st or 2nd post to you that we do live in different times, maybe 30 years from now when all this is over i would too call myself simply Cypriot, but plenty of integrated living has to go on before i can do so. I cannot just feel a part of the GCs simply because my grandpa says so, hence my thread on Nationality vs. Ethnicity.
You have to be able to see that for many this is more than just a phisical division, TRNC is simply where we live and its our home, and EVERYONE there calls them self KKTC'li.
I don’t think this is the case Shah. Most of the TC people I know say they are CYPRIOTS. What this CYPRIOT thing means to them is clearly seen when they point me someone saying, look that one is not a Cypriot he is a TURK a Karasakali.
The fact is, I also say I am a CYPRIOT, and nobody so far told me, no you are not, you are simply an ROC CYPRIOT and I am a North CYPRIOT.
In my opinion this CYPRIOT thing imcludes both Turkish and Greek Cypriots, you can not separate it into two completely isolated parts. Nobody is a true Cypriot unless he says my Country -My Nation is CYPRUS and it has people who speak Turkish, Greek, Arrmenian et cetera.
You said you personally never lived together with GCs so you cannot feel they are part of your Cypriotness. However I too have never lived together with people from Paphos, nobody in my family ever married one from Paphos. However those from Paphos say they are Cypriots too. How can I deprive them this right, how can I separate my self from them and say: Well if you Paphians are Cypriots then I am not, and vice versa.
So in my opinion your Cypriotness and my Cypriotness is an unquestionable FACT. The only thing left is if this Cypriotness is something different that Mainland Greekness or Mainland Turkishness. I believe it is.
