pissouri is in between limassol and paphos, a small little village with all the cypriot charm, that serves cheap wine!!! not many people have heard of pissouri before.

why did you choose polis?

Went to a property developer "road show" here. Polis was described as "up and coming" and when we went over, I liked the fact that it was not too far to Paphos, but at the same time, was far enough away (does that make sense?) As you say, there is a new road to go in and that will cut the journey time down so really will not be too far away from Paphos. Am hoping that Polis has the same Cypriot charm that Pissouri has! When do you move over?

polis is nice but it is completley different to pissouri. what i like about pissouri is the main square there - its not commercial one bit and reminds you what cyprus was like before the tourist boom hit it. paphos doesn't interest me either.ive been going to cyprus for nearly 16 years now and paphos has changed totally, for the worst i think. its too developed and its turned into one big housing estate.

we don't plan to move there just yet. probably in another 5 years or so. jobs etc over there arent that brilliant so we need to save first!!!..so we can sell cans of coke on the beach :)

True Simon

I first came across Pissouri in 1978.

I was amongst a group of Rugby players for the opening night of the 'Bunch of Grapes' ...Is it still there?

I think the owner was a bit of a Rugby fan Because he arranged a rugby match between his 'select' team against the team I used to play for 'Troodos RUFC'

Cant remember the result (I dont think it really mattered) But afterwards we all converged on the Bunch of Grapes for a meze and a few litres of wine . I cant remember a great deal about the evening but I do know (to my shame ) That the brand new sign at the entrance to the restaurant ended up in the Bar or Troodos Rugby Club.....Well the cement holding it in the ground was still wet. :)

Loking at your picture it still looks a really nice unspoilt place and long may it remain so

Hi RichardB, longtime no hear. Hope your well, and not hungover :)

Yes, Bunch of Grapes is still in Pissouri, its just off the main square isn't it. I haven't been there yet but will do next time we go out. Have you been to one of Pissouri's Cypriot nights on a Wednesday? They are very good, the wine flows a little too well!!!!!!

Hi Simon I've not been hungover since Christmas!!

I've not been to one of the Cypriot nights , To be honest I've neglected going over to that side of the Island for a few years now though I seem to remember a thread on the forum regarding these nights and how good they are.

I'm back over at Easter so I guess I should really give it a go.

Do you know if it would be easy to get accommodation overnight as I dont think I'd fancy the drive back to Nicosia after a couple of litres of Kokkinelli!!!

Any way I get a Cypriot night every Wednesday (and every night of the week for that matter) My wifes from the Island...

Kriskris

We have bought house in the same area. We like the idea of being away from the hustle and bustle, but near enough to Paphos for anything we might need there. travelling is no problem to us as we are 14 miles away from a town in the UK so difference there.

There are some funiture shops in Polis, with all the assistants being more than helpful.

There is one on the main road in Prodromi, one on the road to Argaka and one called Orino ,on the left just as you enter Polis.

Snap mate, went out for works do on 22nd December and woke up feeling a little fragile!! (drinking wine now though!)

Re Pissouri, we went last Sept, its a very good night. We stayed in the Colombia Hotel in Pissouri Bay, very nice place indeed, cost around £100 GBP a night. Food and drink in square is cheap. There is another hotel in Pissouri and there are rooms in the square you can rent out but i dont have any details im sorry. Taxi from beach to village is about £5 CYP

This cypriot night ..do all the bars in the square join in or is it just one in particular ..Would I need to book in advance or just turn up?

Think I'll give it a go next time
