Yes I agree with all the above .

Also you may tell him to pay him only an X amount for all the extras he put in the house and settle the matter and threaten him otherwise that this case will be brought in to justice as there is no legal document you signed to ask for all these extras and you have no intention to pay £7k for all of these.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I don't have internet at home (no phone lines yet) so couldnt respond before.

We've decided to make him an offer as the work is done and I couldnt bear him coming in and taking it all down again. We'll offer half what he's looking for on the condition that he finishes all the outstanding work on the house. Otherwise he can sue us and we'll take it from there.
