Why is Cyprus divided?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

very simply, if your state gets recognised then you wont enter into a federation afterwards. The plan will be complete and Turkey will have a purely turkish neighbour south of its coast. As I said before that won't even last long since a vote will follow and by that time 70% of the population which will be made up of turks from the mainland will vote for unification with turkey.

Why should we do that? we will have a sizable minority of Gcs who wishes have to be taken into account as well. A number of settlers will also leave and the balance would be in the TCs favor just as the south would be in the GCs favor. A clause could be signed that we will not unite with Turkey, you are throwing up excuses for the wrong reasons. You have to start thinking out of the box our 2 communities have shown they cannot run a country together and forcing them to do so will only bring a negative outcome.

they haven't shown it at all. In the 4000 years of the islands history the people of the island were given 0.01% of that time to rule themselves. Huge mistakes happened, it doesn't mean that given a proper frmework these two communities cannot run the same country.

if we are free and recognized we wont really need Turkey would we...TRNC will get a chance for the first time ever to do things by them selves in their ways, why is that so painful to some? Afterall you are doing it right now :?

I think VP's idea is very reasonable for both sides...

even we if we have an agreed partition, i don't think for a moment you will be in any position to get away from turkey's clutches.

you do realise that one day, they will ask back all the investment from you guys don't you?

then why do you cancel out a federal solution so much. Most of the stuff we wanted excluded from the agreement meant Turkey's gains were balanced a little not the tC's.

i think Turkey has gained plenty from us with their invesment, since 74, TRNC is basically a "backyard for Turkey" as one Turkish politician described it a while ago. We have been turned into a little Las Vegas for the Turks, its disgusting! But even then you will be suprized to see how many people actually complain about it.

but then again what do i know... :?
