Moving to Cyprus

Postby Den » Fri Jan 19, 2007 6:44 pm

I will be moving to Cyprus shortly and wonder if anyone who has done the same has some advice to offer on removals: eg is it best to arrange this in the UK or in Cyprus? I will have to put my furniture into storage for a few months but should this be stored in the UK or Cyprus?

Another question: How does the tax-free car importing for retirees work? Is this for cars brought in when I move or is it on cars ordered from Cyprus dealers?

Finally, which is the cheapest bank in Cyprus? I am currently with BoC which charges CYP4,00 for direct debits and online transactions? Is this par for the course because it seems expensive to me? (I asked this question a few days ago but it seems to have got lost in the ether somewhere.)

Hi Den,
me, my wife and daughter moved over here a little under a year ago. With regards to removals, we sold everything to make a fresh start over here, in hind site, it would have probably worked out cheaper/easier for us to ship everything over. I believe there are many companys based in the UK that offer door to door to cyprus, i think it costs in the region of 2k+

regarding the cars, I am not to sure, but there are many car dealers over here that seem to specialise in the tax-free deals for retirees.

Banks seem to be a bit like the UK was about 10 years or more ago. I am with Laiki, although i have had no problems or charges for paying standing orders, i lost my bank card, this cost me 5cyp to get replaced, i requested a cheque book, it would cost me 5 cyp for one. and if i use another bank to withdraw a fee of 1 cyp is charged.

hope this helps in someway,

:)

Hi Den

Try www.cyprusliving.netfirms.com/phpbb/nfp ... m.php?f=32

Ask your question there. It seems banks in Cyprus charge for everything but may get better once it deals in Euros.

I have arranged removals and storage through Cyprus as it is cheaper - I've gone with M&S (email [email protected]) though LSA are good too.

Don't know about cars but there are many posts here if you do a search. Shipping companies can also advise.

Good luck
