Nationality vs. Ethnicity

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Now Kikapu u can do whatever the hell you like with yourself, your nationality, and your background, its a free world, but this is my choice, not yours, not anyone elses, and most definately, not the GREEKS!

Turkish Cypriot nationality doesn't exist; because there is no TC nation, neither any country with the name “Turkishcypriotland.” In the face of international law, there is only the Cypriot nationality, i.e. all the lawful citizens /inhabitants of the country called Cyprus, as it is established in 1960 under the statesmanship of the Republic of Cyprus, and approved and ratified by the UN in its 1960 admittance resolution of the whole of Cyprus and its people as an independed and sovereign member country of the UN.

There are only Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities in Cyprus, which are both part of the Cypriot people, or the Cypriot nation; like the US nation is composed by many “ethnic” communities such as the Afro-American, the Anglo-Saxon, the Irish, the Hispanic, the Italian, the Greek, the Jewish, etc, etc, communities

Kifeas you forget we are recognised by one country and that is all it needs. As for the rest we have to work a little harder.

I AM FROM NORTH-CYPRUS AND SO IS EVERYONE IN MY FAMILY, ALWAYS WERE AND ALWAYS WILL BE!!

To be more precise, im from Lefke, a village, in the north-west, where the majority has always been Turkish Cypriot, my family in particular has never mixed with any Greek familys. :)

OK, so you're from Lefke. You have mentioned this once before, so I already knew that. What was missing, how long were you there, so now, you have cleared that up also.

Lefke as you say is in the North - Western part of Cyprus. So that makes you a Cypriot, and more clearly a Turkish Cypriot, that's all, it does not make you "Northern Cypriot". It just points to your location on the map. It's just like saying I'm from the West Coast of the States, I'm not a West Coast American. Or being from Ireland, from North or the Republic, you are Irish.

Just because you were born to Turkish Cypriot parents, don't be sure that you don't have any Greek blood in you, sometime way back. I too were born to Turkish Parents. We are who we are.

My brother-in-law is also from Lefke. Totally "pig" headed. You both seem to share the same view about Greek Cypriots and for the future of the TRNC. Totally set on the idea of self destruction of his country as well as his Turkish Cypriotness, in not too distant future. It must be something in the water, in that part of Cyprus.!

Anyway, what ever views I have about Cyprus's future, is for the best for all Cypriots. You may not know it or believe it, but I do have your best interest in mind. I want my Turkish Cypriot community to have equal quality of life in Cyprus, and not have to live from day to day without certainty of what tomorrow might bring. I want them to wake up in the morning, and be certain, it is going to be wonderful day for all. I want them to be able to have all the simple luxuries of life, that I enjoy in my life. Have the world to be open to them, and not open just only to Turkey.

I'm an American as well as British. If I'm to call myself these nationalities, I will have to accept, all the other nationalities who live in these countries as fellow citizens. I would guess, both USA and UK have people from all around the world. If I can accept them all as fellow citizens, why should it be difficult to accept the Greek Cypriots in Cyprus. If I call myself a Cypriot, I will have to accept all those that are also citizen of Cyprus, or else, I would have to fence myself into an area, to avoid doing that. If I did that, then I cannot really call myself a "True Cypriot".

Carefull you don't over exert yourselves

So if you only need one country to recognise you to become a legal state despite the UN, EU, Commonwealth, WTO etc etc stating you're illegal...then would the same thing work if some Wacko guy from Hamilton Montana with his own little army declared an independant state and Mozambique recognised him would that make him a legal state?

Execution is legal in some US states and illegal in others, what do you make of that. :? The law is a complete ass in some cases and a saviour in others, we are recognised by Turkey and can excercise all the things that go with that so what does that mean?

I was reading a piece in the paper the other day that an English man whose father bought an old gunned observation post somewhere out to sea which does not fall in British waters. He has declared it "The republic of Waterworld" and defends it with force. The courts have declared that he can do what ever he wants there and could not be charged in a British court of law even though he shot at a British helicopter. The law sometimes spins on its own finger.

Kikapou i might be "pig headed" but u are a naive fool, if you believe your freedom and what is "best for everyone" lies in the hands of the Greeks then be my guest go live there, dont try to drag everyone with you, because im pretty sure there are plenty of "pig headed" people on this island and not just in Lefke.

You cannot compare our situation to millions of Indians who came to the UK to work, or to the millions of people from various nations who went to the the States to start a new life and build a new world.
WE have a right to this island just as much as anyone else, not as guests, not as refugees, but as natives!!
Therefore im not going to aggree with anyone or any policy that is ready to indirectly hand us over to the Greeks, i guess time will show the outcomes and lets just hope that it all works out for the best ;)

Furthermore, if you like the American system soo much Kifeas, lets have 2 separate states :)

Kikapu why are so concerned about how shahmaran views his nationality, he could think hes a martian why do you care so much? and are trying to make him accept he is a "Cypriot" without the Turkish part of his identity. Surely he should be free to believe what he wants and not be forced into pigeon holes he truly believes he does not belong. He is and me to a certain extent the product of the TRNC country recognized or not its here and has all the structure of any other country which we love and feel we belong to, this however much you argue will not disappear. We have never felt part of the "RoC" and over the past 47 years we have moved further and furtehr away to us it respresents a GC state for GCs run by GCs.

You feel you are closer to your GC "brothers" that is your personal choice, you can go live with them but you have no right to try and force your mindset on other TCs who think more in line with Shahmaran as they prefer to stay in the TRNC under all those ho so hard conditions you have yet to see for yourself but so whole heartidly believe are real. One less TV or one less car or more money will not make us better or more happy people. I and many TCs would rather have the peace of mind we have enjoyed for 33 years than the prospects of living in a GC state as a minority. The only unification structure that made TCs say yes is totally unacceptable to GCs so that must tell you a great deal. Work it out for yourself.

....couldnt agree more!

TRNC is the most peacefull and easy-going place i have ever lived in so far, im so thankfull i grew up there and not in an EU city, and i do love travelling!

TCs are so lovely and so distand to the shit any other EU city will bring, im god damn proud to be one! it has allowed me to see every other country i visit with such a different eye...

Close the gates, let these foools see that we mean business, make them loose this "you owe it to us, its ours, YOU have to negotiate with US" attitude, let them understand we dont want them as much as they want us, so if they want anything from us it has to be negotiated from a more even angle.

I personally have not taken anyobodys land nor property so as far as im concerned i dont owe anyone anything!

Which country apparently is also the illegal invader and illegal occupier of the northern part of the RoC in which you assumed the illegitimate right to declare your "TRNC," after the invader had ethnically cleansed the vast majority of the area's indigenous population - the Greek Cypriots, and usurped all their properties. I am "afraid" it is not quite enough that you are recognised by Turkey, under the above circumstances and conditions, that is why nobody else did recognise you, nor the UN organs that it is their job to make and authorise such recognition but which to the contrary have issued a resolution condemning and calling invalid and nullified such a so-called "TRNC" independence declaration.
