Talking about ""eshe-oglu-eshekler" reminds me of an old Cypriot anectode:

During the time when the British were signing up TCs as Auxillary Police and sending them onto their GC compatriots (aka divide-and-rule),a TC chap was walking along with his donkey when he heard someone call out "Hey you,Where are going with your brother in such a hurry?".

Turning around he saw a bunch of TC auxillaries doubled up with laughter.
Without missing a beat he replied,"I am taking him away to stop him from joining the Auxillaries, like all the other donkeys around here..."

Not really important because Bir has not said anything but in English it is not nice to call someone a Birk (berk).

But other people called Birkibrisli like that and I thought it was a good shortcut... Tut, tut, tut.

Don't worry, dear Pyro,I've been called worse things in my life.
No offence can be taken where none is intended,in any case.

But my thanks too to Zan,the gentleman, for pointing it out.

I was dreading someone using it in anger. I think we have had enough name calling for a life time. Sarcasm fine, name calling well,,,,,,,,,

Literally it means "A Cypriot",miltiades.
Bir is indeed One,but it translates as 'A' in this sense.

But it has a more subtle meaning as well. It also means "the One from a single/unitary Cyprus"
