Nationality vs. Ethnicity

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby shahmaran » Sun Jan 28, 2007 6:25 pm

Well i did say i hope they are not in the majority and im srtill unsure about it, but no i dont really know anyone of them, specially not in my village, however i do know some who still take a slight tilting towards that side with plenty of scepticism.

Look who is talking. The one who said has recorded my number, and is watching if I am some sort of paid agent of Papadopoulos.

NB. What’s my number today Zan?

I have been waiting for this post all day Pyro. Well done

Although I did not expect it in this form. Maybe it is lost in translation but if you ask the other half of you that can speak perfect English, the phrase I've got your number does not mean that I have recorded your number.  Only admin can do that

Out of all your bigoted posts this has to be the most distasteful of the lot. You are doing more harm to the "Cypriot" than any other person on this board. I for one no longer believe that you are as old as you make out to be because this and other posts are not that of a mature poster. You and a few other posters are the ones that are working together and I am proud of the way VP is handling this. You are an absolute disgrace.

Zan, VP, Shah, all TC's. Just for the record. Miltiades, as he claims is indeed in his early sixties. He is a very successful businessman, a grandfather and a caring husband. He has been a full time carer to his sick wife for the last 5 years.

I have met this honorable gentleman and we talk on the phone frequently. He truly cares for Cyprus and all Cypriots. He has told me on many occasions that nothing would give him more pleasure than to see a TC as President of Cyprus.

He gets PM's from Greek members calling him a Turk lover and saying his mother is probably a Turk.

I have seen on more than one occasion asking VP and Zan to meet for a beer and a chat. while it is your choice to accept or decline it saddens me that you have both declined this offer.

I'm concerned with the way things are going between you guys and Miltiades. Would we all be happier if he was another Piratis or Kifeas?

Please, I ask you kindly to be a bit more tolerant with this gentleman and reconsider your decision on his invite. Get to know him, you will be pleasantly surprised with his sincerity and kindness.

I believe the only way to have a TC president is by returning to the 1960 constitution. And the GC president to intentionally have long vocations abroad so the TC vice president takes over as acting president during his absense. This will train our stupid nationalists that a TC can be as good or as bad as a GC president. Then slowly slowly agree to change the constitution so at least one ever 4 terms a TC is President.

Thank you for this post mrfromng and I have felt his frustration sometimes. I am sorry to hear about his wife and hope she is comfortable.

I do get frustrated with him though because he seems to think that he is our father or grandfather and I wish he would talk to us as equals and not bark out his orders like he does. This whole business is hard on all of us and I have very violent mood swings sometimes and have said things that I should not of. Miltiades on the other hand grates on a lot of peoples nerves and should take into consideration that his world is not everybody’s world. I just wish he could be consistent with his personality as you describe him and I am sure he is but he seems to suffer from a sort of road rage when he gets in front of his PC. That is the guy I don't want to meet. The other reason is that I think I have said all I believe in on this site and although I can see my self repeating it more again I really cannot see the point in meeting.

I guess this all depends on what everyone wants to get out of this fourm..

- a place to vent our anger at the other side?
- an attempt to convert the unbelievers on the other point of view?
- a place for tc's and gc's to get to know each other and agree/disagree on the conflict?
- a place for tc's and gc's to get to know each other as people and not as adversaries and if the conflict comes up...then so be it.

I am relatively new to the forum but have an impression of what zan and miltiades are about (at least were this forum is concerned)

Miltiades is what we call on the GC side a Neo-Kyprios...(no insult meant here miltiades..not my opinion) a neo-kyprios is a derogatory claim for someone who believes there is a cypriot ethnos (nation). He probably voted yes in the annan plan and is true believer in re-unification of his country. Basically it means he might be able to go the extra mile to come to a solution unlike most of us (gc's and tc's) and might be able to swallow a little more concession than most of us.

The frustration comes when he is forced to conflict with his own community about this probably in every discussion regarding the cyprus problem he has. WHen he spends so much time defending the unified view, the concessional route, the lets meet half way route and gets a partionist from the other side in his face then those frustrations will blow up sometimes.

People like this( also Bir, Kikapu, Bananiolot etc) unfortunately have to argue with 2 communities, whereas the rest of us get away with arguing against just 1.

Phew...
I am certainly glad I was away from my computer for some time.
Being insulted is not good for your (one's health).I do however feel slightly guilty for letting down my brothers Kikapu and Miltiades by not being here to help with the fight of "True Cypriots".
I think from now on we ought to use this term a bit more often. For it is us,the True Cypriots who are fighting for the good of our homeland, our motherland,Cyprus. It is us who believe Cypriots are one people, one nation, divided by two artificial factors (like two computer softwares designed to facilitate human communication and worship -this too is something I will start harping on from now on!). The battle lines will be drawn, and we will all line up on one side or the other.
This post might seem a bit of a pointless ramble, because I have just read some 15 pages in one sitting, and my head is still spinning especially with those insults between Shah and Simon and Pyro and Viewpoint, and Zan and dear Miltiades.
I want to give one little warning to those who use personal insults as a weapon in their discussions. Just because some of us chose to be civilised in our posts does not mean we are not capable of insulting language,or we are too polite to ever utilise such weapons. There is always a line that must not be crossed as far as I am concerned. If somebody crosses that line with me or my fellow True Cypriots,I either ignore them totally from then on,or if I think they are worth the trouble, return the compliments ten folds,in a language they will never forget.
You have two more days to think about what I've said. After that I will be back at my computer and keeping an eagle eye on you all miserable excuses for sensible interlocuters, miserable advocates of foreign interests,
and miserable profiteers of human pain and suffering...
