Well that was fun. Getting up at the crack of dawn, driving one of my children to school, only to find that it is closed today apparently because the education minister popped his clogs yesterday afternoon.
Yes it is sad that someone died but am I the only person who thinks it is a little strong to shut down the schools over the death of a civil servant?
I could understand it if it was the president as public closures are expected for a head of state, but surely not for a minister?
Talk about short notice, if they were going to have a national day of mourning where they wanted to close the schools then it should at least be done with enough grace given to notify the parents.
Why are politicians lionized, I'm not talking necessarily just about Cyprus because it occurrs in many countries, at the end of the day they are public servants who are voted into their positions in order to do a job for the people, usually that job is only ever secondary to their primary motivation for joining the world of politics which is to further their own interests.
Then we go and treat them like royalty for some reason which only serves to bolster their egos and give them the impression that we are their to serve them not the other way around.
