School closure today

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Again, it was not a head of state it was a minister and as for doubting if Cypriot parents would object, that is a pretty big assumption. Many parents drop their children off at school on their way to work and would have found it incredibly inconvenient to have to find childcare at such short notice. You are talking about tens of thousands of families affected by this.

Genuine grief? Is this the sort of genuine emotion felt buy well-wishers at a cypriot wedding who turn up for the buffet and then pin envelopes on the bride and groom filled with slips of newspaper instead of money? How do you rate Cypriot emotional honesty compared to us cold-hearted foreigners then?

The children will go "Way Hay!!!" :D :D :D

If you understood the cultural principles behind the practise of pinning money to the bride's dress 123456, you would also know that the act of substituting newspaper for currency would place a Devil's curse upon the perpetrator, I don't think there are many Cypriots prepared to invite such a possibility, I do know that it is considered quite a clever ploy by some 'outsider's' seeking a free meal and too much drink, let them live with the consequences of their own conscience, another example of little respect perhaps?. :( :( :( :( :(

You lot are generalising as usual! "All cypriots think this...", "All UK people think that..."

Let's compare it to something possibly similar in the UK.

What will happen if our Queen dies? (i.e our head of state, BTW our head of state is NOT Tony Blair!!!! Thank goodness!!)

1) There will be a day off
2) Some brits will mourn
3) Some will be apathetic
4) Some won't give a toss and will enjoy the extra day's holiday
5) Some will be annoyed because their business will lose money etc.

See? We all have different views about all sorts of things, I don't see we can know what ALL cypriots would think about this closure the same way I don't know what ALL people from my culture would think about something like the example I just gave.

When it comes down to matters of natural 'respect' Pete_D, I think you will find that all Cypriots share the same view, there may be some who have adopted the standards of other nations, that is their problem. :( :( :( :( :(

I presume you realise you have just contradicted yourself in what you said?.....

If you are referring to my comment about 'outsider's', no, I do not think I have contradicted myself, I am making a distinction between Cypriot people and those who have been influenced by other nations, whether they be T/C or G/C they ALL have a basic respect, (providing they have not been so contaminated). :) :) :) :) :)

You first said "all Cypriots share the same view" (referring to 'respect').
But in the next phrase you said "there may be some who have adopted the standards of other nations" (referring to Cypriots).

So which is it?! Either all Cypriots share the same view, or they do not all the share the same view!!!!

Besides, unless you personally know all Cypriots then you are not in a position to even make the above statement!
