Area with Fastest Internet Speed?

Postby amlek » Thu Jan 18, 2007 7:09 am

We would very much appreciate advice about which areas have the best internet connection speeds. We will be moving to Cyprus in a couple of months & our decision on where to settle is only restricted by our ability to obtain a decent internet connection, as our business requires this.
The CYTANET website states that broadband is available in all the major towns, but we would much appreciate some first hand information about peoples experiences with local ISPs.
It seems that most of the adverts for rental property we have been looking at don’t specify whether there is a phoneline already connected. If a property doesn’t already have a line, is this a major problem to organise? How long does it take to get connected by the ISP once a line is installed?
Many thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

I get a max speed connection pretty much 24/7 in Nicosia... (1mb)

As all the traffic goes to nicosia first, i would think its going to be the most consistent, but it is going to depend on how many people are "sharing" your line to the isp...

If the internet is so important that it could determine where you live, why not have a satellite system and live where you choose?

Satellite is too expensive! You should go to an area that is covered by Primetel which is a competitor of Cyta. http://www.prime-tel.com/Main/default.aspx Then you will have more option to choose from.

But with satellite you can live anywhere on the island.

My assumption was that a high speed link was so important that money would not be important - and satellite communication need not be that expensive.
