How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Hi Bill these are the names that older cypriots give to these places

Scala was originally a seperate town about a mile away from Larnaca but has long since been swallowed up by the municiple boundaries of Larnaca as we know it, but the older cypriots as said do sometmes refer to the whole area as Scala still

Varosi is refering to the Famagusta suburb of Varosha which was the main tourist area before the invasion . This incidently is the area now refered to as the Ghost Town and is fenced off for the last 32 years

Hora as far as I know is just a nick name for Nicosia as we might say "I'm going up town" instead of mentioning the towns name especially if its obvious Nicosia is also refered to as Shera by elder Turkish speaking Cypriots

"Shera" is a new one to me - How do you pronounce it? Shee-ra or Shay-ra? I think I'm going to use these old names in my conversations to maintain tradition.

Since when are they Turkish villages wise guy? Tell us all to hear.

I agree, please tell me. I wish to hear.

So, for argument sake, if the English army invaded Turkey and changed the name of Bodrum to something like Birmingham. Would this be classed as an English city? The English would reside there, so why not call it an English city?

Its not that simple Simon....HA! Just got that my self

You are omitting a vital factor in your argument and that is the Turkish Cypriots. We decide what to call our villages and no body else. The GCs have tried to cut us out of all aspects of the cyprob and blame Turkey and it seems that they have got another recruit in you.

But you can not just change the name of a town/village to suit.

Important though! The idea is who is looking at it. Do you honestly think that asking the TCs to use GC names is an honest and thoughtful way to go about this. Did you not expect the response you got or were you counting on it?

Seems to me that some are trying to reinvent the wheel on this matter of place names. Cyprus is not unique in this area. Perhaps we should look at other places which have such problems. Looking at the example of another country invented by the Brits, Belgium, which has two languages, might be constructive. In a conversation in French, you would refer to the capital of that country as Bruxelles, in a Walloon converation as Brussel and one in English as Brussels. All three names, and others in other languages, are just as relevent, dependant on the language being used. Isn't it that simple?

No........... Barbarians try to kill their own people that they call Cypriot when it suits them and then they try to make them look bad because they don't like the fact they lost something because of their own intransigence.

They even cry about the changing of a few names. Those places are in the TRNC now so get over it.

I apologise to all those GCs out there that do see the real world and not some world made up of pure propaganda like some of these guys in here but they do piss me off. I will forgive them though because blood is thicker than water.

For once I agree with you as to what Barbarians do.
And I also apologise to all those TCs and GCs who are not part of it.
