How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Congratulations zan great posts, agree with what you are saying 100% I truly believe the majority of TCs also think the same. There are hundreds of TC famalies form all over the world coming back to the TRNC or making preparartions like building a home ready for when they arrive. The life style and quality of life in the north is starting to attract them as more now than ever before they witness that their quality of life living abroad is worse than ours.

I do find it perplexing that the picture Bir keeps painting has no reference to what is really happening. It does seem that his one aim is to get the refugees back to their homes and sod the consequences (the consequences being us the Turkish Cypriots). With that in mind, who can help but doubt his intentions. Even with the government, he has moaned that the TRNC has no say with what goes on and the one time they take control and are now being vilified by the Turkish press over that bloody bridge, he uses that against the TRNC. We are waking up Bir and that in turn is saying to the government that they too had better wake up. They are responding.

I always said we have to deal with the settlers in a humane way,Zan.You have to give credit where credit is due.
Why do you guys think I have it in for the TC community,my own community???Because I think differently does not mean I wish ill for the TCs. I am trying desperately to save the TC from the inevitable...complete assimilation with the Turkish culture, and the loss of their true identity.(Well,as much as I can influence anything writing in cyber space!) Now if you see nothing wrong with that, and think you'd rather be somebody else than what you are, that is fine with me.But don't expect me to think and believe the same.

If you fail to see the real symbolic significance of Talat's going to Ankara to speak to the General about a stupid bridge, that too is your problem.
But I can only call the shots as I see them. And what I see is a community so paralysed with the historical fear of the "enemy" that it is prepared toabandon their true identity to find some imaginary and temporary safety.Elsewhere I described the difficulties facing the TCs (leaking lifeboat analogy etc),and I said they need help and understanding from their fellow citizens which they are not getting. There are more than one way for a community to meet their end,and I just believe we (the TCs) have chosen the easiest, least honourable way...If things prove me wrong,I Hope my soul will finally get some rest in my grave .But if time proves me right,I hope some of you will remember that silly, utopian Birkibrisli chap, back in the early 2000s who tried his best to warn you of the impending danger.I'd be long gone by then to say "I told you so"...

As I think it was you who said Bir and miltiades are really stuck in a time warp, that generation are nearly exsinct and they are the reason why we are in this mess in the first place, we are the ones trying to clean up.

What also strikes me as truly ignorant is that they try and potray Turkey as the devil and use that as a negative threatening they will swallowed up and we will loose our identitiy and that we should choose them and we will not be assimilated  , they seem to ignore the fact that we are Turkish in origin and that if we are to be assimilated we woudl rather be Turkish than Greek, why is so difficult to comprehend?

No,Viewpoint,we are not the ones stuck in a time warp. We are prepared to leave the past where it belongs, and move with the more enlightened times, and find a more civilised and humanistic solution to our problems.
You and Zan are stuck in the pathological fear of the GCs which might have been understandable back in the 60s.But totally irrelevant and paraniodal in the present.
And if you haven't worked it out yet,I was 4 years old in 1955 when EOKA and TMT began their evil dance of death and self-destruction,and 12 in 1963 when it all blew up in our faces.I had nothing to do with it.I belong to the generation of innocent children who had no idea why there was so much hatred and fear and biterness around us.Why we had to kill or be killed by our fellow compatriots...Why we had to leave our homeland and try to forge another life elsewhere where we were not really welcome but only just tolerated...Think about it.

Then you of all people should know better that unifcation with these people is near enough impossible as their aims are to dominate and control the whole of Cyprus with us "your community" as just another minority. Cant you understand that we do not want that future and I do not want it for my children as you time and time conveniently forget that with a solutionn something along the lines of the demonixed Annan plan TCs will never say YES ever again. They have chosen Turks over GCs and the sooner you realize this the better. For gods sake Turkey is where we come from not Greece and their cultural backround is so much closer to ours than the GCs will ever be.

Says who? The Omniscient Zan?

What are you going to do to me Zan? Shoot me dead like they do in Turkey for everyone who dares "insult the great Turkish nation"?

Have you taken the time to watch how the Turkish people are crying for Hrant Dink, they are real Turkish people you hate so much. They are displaying that they do not hate Armenians and they concisder them part of their own colourful mosiac of ethnic peoples who now so proudly make Tukrey what it is today. You really need to wise up about Turkey and readjust your mindset as you are way off centre.

Yes I have. Armenians and SOME TURKISH LEFTISTS.

Are those Armenians and some leftists representative of the settlers you are having?

I told you before I really don't care abot the NEW AND EXCITING IDENTITY you are persuing. I am just discussing here. Nothing for me to worry about.

Give me some examples of what the RoC has done for us since 1963. Just a handful of examples will do.

I will give you a few of what the Turks did for us. They saved us from certain destruction. They have given us money and food to cancel out the siege that the RoC has put us under. They have fought for us on the world stage of politics. They are risking their EU membership for us. They died for us on our shores. They are willing to take us in as one of their own if we want them to.

You will argue that they are doing it for themselves but again what has the RoC done for us.....ever. All we get from them is oxi, oxi oxi.

How easy it is to forget when everything comes so easy as OVERNIGHT.

We gave you Electricity for more than a month man, NO QUESTIONS ASKED when your whole net collapsed. We had every right to refuse. What would you do. bsolutely impossible to bring electricity from Turkey.
You total agriculture production would collapse. Contructions on our own properties would stop. All meat and food and milk destroyed. People dying from cold (it was winter). All merchants go bankrupt. The damn flag on the mountain would finally go off at night. Computers would seize. Banks would stop operating without computers. In other words complete disaster.

From 1974 onwards we pay the elderly TCs their pensions. We could refuse to do it. And many more I don't remember now, cause they come easy to you with no conditions to remember.

All you have to think about is if your NEW MODERN identity will be better or worse than your old traditional TC identity.
Well, heres a good example for you:

Your daughter gets married with someone from Turkey. Your grand-daughter gets raped. Her brothers slaughter their pregnant sister to wipe off the shame.

Congratulations for your NEW MODERN culture.

NB. The above example might be extreme, but it is indicative of what you should expect.

I am sorry Pyro but this post just about says it all. You no longer have the right to comment on the Turks from Turkey ever again. I do not wish to be rude to you on this subject because I now realise you have no idea about Turkey so it is not worth arguing the point. There are some honour killings that go on in Turkey but they are so far out of the real Turkey that it is of no consequence. What you need to do is to go there and actually open your eyes as to how European and diverse a people they are. I am actually writing this with a real sense of despair at what you have written here because if it is out of ignorance or just pure hate it makes no difference.

I know that truth hurts sometimes,Zan,but that is not Pyro's fault,is it?
He is using an extreme example (as he admitted himself) to make a point. And his point is very valid. The settlers are not and will not be the worldly, educated Turks like Tufan (2Fan) but those poor sods, the uneducated, culturally inflexible, unsuitable characters who are just looking for a better economic environment to transport their religiously bigoted and male chauvinistic, blinkered mindsets...Any hope that they might be culturally and politically integrated in a short time is sadly misguided.
Please don't get me wrong,I am not saying it is their fault, and I am not looking down on them. What I am saying is they don't belong in Cyprus.TCs have enough problems to deal with without taking on the problems these people will import to Cyprus.I am amased you and Viewpoint fail to see these dangers... :?

Although I am very grateful for the electricity as you had every right not to give it to us but we did pay up front for it.

The pensions, those people paid into a fund pre 1974 thats why you have to pay them now, those pesions have been earned and are not from the kindnest of your heart.

WOW! As much as that. The money comes from the EU and tell me how much have you been refusing to pay to us and keep telling us that you are saving it for us on condition we join the RoC. Even the RoC is not stupid enough to at least make it seem as if they are trying. Something like you are doing in your post.

You did not pay up front, and payment was not the issue. We could find a hundred excuses NOT TO GIVE YOU electricity and you would do that if we were in your position.
What you fail to understand is that we put your interests above our own

As for the pensions for your information none of your elderly was eligible for pension if the same terms applied to the GCs would apply to you, because the pension fund needs a minimum years contribution. The Government simply payed the contributions of the TCs for the missing years so they become eligible.

As usual you are out of time and space. Show me the money coming from the EU that we are presumably saving for you. For your information RoC is a nett contributor to the EU.
Money coming and money coming…. Is this the fairy tails they feed you on with at the occupied that we get packs from abroad the same way you get packs from Turkey?
