"No really, which ones are the Turks?"

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Does playing a fps game and always choose to play on the allied side make you an anti-German racist?

Again,I am sorry for upsetting you,Viewpoint, but I have to be true to my beliefs.
I might be living thousands of miles away, but that doesn't mean I don't know what I am talking about. For over 20 years I worked as an interpreter, conflict resolution counsellor, and a Justice of the Peace, mainly with the mainland Turkish community. For over 30 years I have been holidaying in Turkey (and occasionally in Cyprus) every few years.
I have close relatives living in Ankara,Mersin,Antalya, and Bodrum, plus the TRNC of course.I was married to a Turkish lady for 7 years, and lived in Turkey as a native for half of that time. I have nothing against the Turkish people, including my former wife. They are just not like us.We happen to share the same (sort of) language and religion (less sort of).
We are exactly as much like the mainland Turks as the Greek Cypriots are like the mainland Turks. That is not much at all.I'd say that living in Australia ,makes me more objective about this than perhaps you who have lost most of your Cypriot self,as it is inevitable when you are swamped by the settlers for so long...We simply cannot preserve our identity, our dignity and our self-respect by living in the TRNC as people without any real say over our own destiny. You don't have to agree with me,but I hope you will agree that I am entitled to my opinions...however utopian you might think they are...

Your fear of the GC has turned to an over exaggerated fear of Turkey and maybe your little "swallow" of the flightless bird and interaction with one of its members has left you feeling a little disgruntled.

I have no claim to being enlightened,Zan...In fact the more I live and learn the more I realise how little I know.

My fear of being assimilated into the Turkish society and culture is very real. In fact it is not a fear at all but a fact,a reality taking place infront of our eyes, for those who want to see that is.

Your fear for your physical safety once the Turkish army withdraws from Cyprus is pathological. It is based of events long in the past and totally irrelevant today, and fueled by
three cognitive distortions :All or nothing thinking(we cannot survive as a community without our own separate state),fortune telling error(if the Turkish army leaves the GCs will drink our blood in no time),and self-labeling (we are nothing without Turkey)...

And for your information the phrase you are looking for is not "flightless bird" but "songless bird (otmeyen kush),in Turkish spoken by Turks.
Better get it right before your Turkish brothers call you a British bastard who cannot speak Turkish properly... :D

VP..at the stroke of midnight we also grow another head of horns out of our neck.

strange how you make out to be more afraid about us when the last time their was violence it was 40,000 Turkish troops attacking our towns. Or where turkish grenades exploding rose petals and tanks firing cute little bunnies at us?

Wake up and pay attention safeguards not just for security but for political and regional etc reasons.

Again I don't know whether you guys, including Bir just don't understand what we are saying or choose not to. We have, or at least I have never said that the entire GC population is out to get us. What I have said over and over again, and if the recent past is anything to go by I will have to say it many more times, is that it is the GC mentality and there fore its government that will do us the harm. Show me where the RoC has done me any good in the last46 years. They have caused me and mine hardship and death and eviction from my own country. It is you guys alone that have said that it was EOKA B and not the GC people them selves. A hand full of people you keep telling us. So what is to stop a hand full of people doing it again. You guys are still giving medals to your EOKA so called freedom fighters and have arrested less than a finger full let alone a hand full. This danger, as VP and I have been trying to get you to accept is not just physical and well you know it. I am beginning to believe in the conspiracy theory that I have been arguing against because I still refuse to believe that you guys are as stupid as you make out to be. Trying to make our fears into childrens bedtime stories and yours into reality is just not going to work. Bir all those qualifications you’ve got have not made you see any clearer. Why don't you try to smuggle your family out of that army run state of Turkey, as it is so terrible? Yes they have their problems but they are better than the Greeks in our eyes. If you are going to give us ultimatums then we will ALWAYS pick Turkey. What we have been asking for is equality in our own state ney what we have been demanding is equality in our own state and if you think that the option between losing our Turkishness and assimilating into Cypriotness is a close run thing then think again. They are miles apart and drifting ever further away. I can still claim I am a Turk from Cyprus and that makes me a Turkish Cypriot and my culture will evolve just the same way the GC culture will.

By all means you can believe whatever you wish but to come on here and try to force "Cypriotism" with the same "brothers" who aim even today is to ensure we are demoted to just another minority in our own country making a GC state run by GCs will not do. You have lost all sense of your roots, which i am sure you are unfortunately Turkish. Those people you have lived probably longer than GCs and have even spawned children together you can turn around and say you have nothing in common, that our hypocrisy, why didnt you go live in the south in your beloved GC "RoC" and have a few Cypriot children who now probably speak Greek to their daddy and eat souvlaki on Sundays. Well that's not what I want I want to have a say in my future, I will not put it in the hands of purely GCs and even with the TRNC they way it is I would rather continue as is until a time we can develop and the world realizes that there is no unification prospects and that the only solution is recognized division. The alternative is the GC state in the south which we have had ample time to absorb understand and decide whether we want it or not and believe me bir i do not see a long line of TCs rushing to live in the south, that must tell you a hell of a lot, TCs are happy the way they are OK if something came along that was a better option then I'm sure they would have the common sense to agree but that is not an option and at the current rate we will stay as we are for many more years to come.

Viewpoint, nobody believes you! Not even your own self!

You just got so much more territory than your fair share, and so much more and better (the best) properties in comparison with what you really own in Cyprus, that you want to hold onto them with "teeth and nails" and forever, and not to risk losing them by having to return them in a re-unifying solution. This is the main reason why you are all for the “TRNC” and partition! You got so much more in the expense of the Greek Cypriots, that you even had to bring tens thousands of extra people from Turkey and other countries, in order for them to take our places and fill the gap, and to help you out with the looting and the usurping; and this is the reason you have become so “sweetened” with the prospect of partition. This is your basic subconscious motivation, and all the rest are just fustian talking.

Nobody believes you! Not even your own self!

I am not trying to force anything on anyone,Viewpoint.
I am just stating my considered opinions, and people can do whatevere they like with them.I believe strongly in what I say.But you have the right to dismiss them, after careful consideration I hope...
I never said we have nothing in common with the Turkish people.
I said we are not like them when it comes to things that really count like mindset, worldview, sense of humour, temperament, personality traits etc.
I'd rather live in my own country,in my motherland,as a sizeable minority with guaranteed political and human rights
than live in a pretend state,on other people's land, with certain knowledge of inevitable loss of my Cypriot national identity. You don't seem to get it.
In a united Cyprus we have every chance of maintaining our identity as TCs,even with only minority rights. In the TRNC we have no chance at all of maintaining our identity as TCs in the long run.You keep telling me to go and live "in the South" and become a GC. You fail to see that I can never become what I am not...I can never become a GC and nor do I think that is desirable for my identity's sake. But I can become a Cypriot and live together with other Cypriots of all backgrounds, anywhere on the island. If I went to live in the South as you say,and married a GC lady, you are right,my children will become GCs under the present circumstances. Though I see nothing wrong with that intrinsicly,I don't believe they would be totally happy and well adjusted individuals if they have to deny the TC identity of their father, given the poisonous atmosphere present in Cyprus. My "utopia" as you would say is a united Cyprus where we live as Cypriots, equal citizens with full knowledge and respect of our ethnic and religious identities...I can't have that with only 5-10 thousand TCs living in the Republic. But with 200,000 TCs (I am counting those in the diaspora who will return after a comprehensive settlement, and their descendants) we have a fighting chance of forging one unique Cypriot identity distinguishable from the present TC and GC identity...Do I make sense to anyone??? :?
