Getting Married in Paphos

Postby rod&ksenia » Tue Jan 16, 2007 12:24 pm

Hi everybody!

We want to get married in Paphos in March 2007. A very small wedding :)(only a few family members are coming, and we are planning to spend no more than 6 days in the country) We are both foreign to Cyprus (American citizen and Russian citizen) but we heard a lot about weddings in Cyprus this is where we are going! :D
Does anyone have a suggestion of where to have such a wedding in Paphos?

Thanks in advance!

Do we need to contact them beforehand or can all arrangements be made in a couple of days?

Cypriot civil ceremonies are something else, if you blink you will miss it, we were in the wedding room for approx 45 seconds and they were married!! No "I do's" just a short speech and your spliced and exchange of rings and its all over.

OK I suppose if you want to make a quick get away to celebrate your nuptials

Hi rob&ksenia, you want to get married in Cyprus...not to married with the tradidional way we get married in Cyprus...and you might heard about. Usually foreign couples get married in Cyprus with the quick way like Snad described. Sorry about that. But about what cameron_roxburgh said its ok...you can find lots of other places too. But you have to contact with them as soon as possible especially if you decided about the day!

That's not too short snad. In Las Vegas, you don't even need to get out of your car at the wedding chapels, as some of them have a "drive through". :!:

I'm not even sure if it's required to turn the engine off long enough to say "I do".

But to get a divorce in Las Vegas, it is required that you have 6 weeks residence in the State of Nevada. :?

First you get cleaned out by the divorce settlement, and the rest by the Casinos, while waiting to get a divorce.

You're going to get "screwed", no matter.

"Below is a copy of an email a friend of mine received regarding her marriage in Cyprus.
The law might be different in other countries."

Dear Ms ****

Thank you for your email concerning your proposed marriage in Cyprus.

If you are resident in Scotland you can apply to your local Registrar's office, at the maximum of 3 months before the date of the marriage, for a Certificate of No Impediment. To obtain the certificate you would complete a marriage notice form, which can be obtained from the Registrar or downloaded from our website (http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk), and submit it with your birth certificate and if relevant divorce decree and the £25 fee, to the Registrar. The Registrar would be able to issue the certificate of no impediment 15 days after submission of the completed form and fee. There is also a directory of Registrars in Scotland on our website.

However, if you are not resident in Scotland you cannot apply for a certificate of no impediment. But, this office can produce a letter confirming that a search has been made in the indexes of marriage in Scotland but no trace has been found of a marriage involving you.

If you require such a letter ask her to please forward the following information and correct fee:

1 Your full name, date and place of birth and full postal address.

2 Your mother's maiden surname.

3 Details of when your marriage is to take place in Cyprus.

4 If relevant the date and place of your divorce and former husband's name.

5 The fee is £5 for every 5 years or part of 5 years that have passed since you reached the age of sixteen or if relevant when you were divorced for example if you were born in 1984 the fee would be £10 (7 year search) if you were divorced in 2003 the fee would be £5 (4 year search). If you are sending a cheque it should be in pounds sterling and made payable to "The Registrar General". Should you wish to pay by Switch or Visa you would have to fax all the above details to us quoting your card number, security code, date of issue/expiry plus your full signature. Our fax number is 0131 314 4532

In answer to your question about the legal age of witnesses to a wedding in Cyprus, as we deal with the preliminaries to marriage in Scotland I cannot advise on the legal procedures for marrying in Cyprus. Therefore you may wish to contact the Cyprus High Commission at the following address for advice:

93 Park Street

LONDON

W1K7ET

Telephone number: 020 7499 8272

I hope this answers your question, however, if you require further information please contact us again.

Yours sincerely

Miss Theresa M Prior
