Niki2410, If, as a citizen, you voice your opinions on issues that you find distasteful in your own country, you are perfectly entitled to do so and should feel no remorse. If a person who is not one of your countrymen should also voice similar opinions, you are perfectly entitled to feel some resentment, however, providing the issues are based on evidential facts it is your duty to consider them as legitimate since they are in concert with your own. The whole purpose of general discussion is to resolve differences, it is quite pointless to spring to the defence of your country whenever controversy exists, merely because it IS your country. Debate and discussion are the key to an acceptable conclusion on any issue, providing the participants are prepared to accept the observations of others. I do not direct these comments to you Niki2410, I feel that your above post has given me the opportunity to submit these points. :) :) :) :) :)

any good mother will stand in defense of her child. any good friend will support their friend even when they know that person may be wrong. this country has made it possible for me to become who i am, and i am pretty proud of that. i will stick up for her.
i was unaware this forum was only for voicing complaints....oops. sorry eliko.

Observations made in a positive light for your country wherever it may be are surely good. I unfortunately feel nothing but negative about the UK and I am probably biased because I have been so badly let down with the garbage the UK throws at me. So ... the fact that GG is positive about the USA is a good thing and good for her.

I often feel from forum posts that it is the people who have emigrated to Cyprus that feel more positive about the country than the people born in Cyprus. Grass is always greener or maybe it's because they know having experienced living elsewhere first hand Cyprus is not perfect but is the better option?

...and I am more than happy for anyone to criticise the UK for the bad points that exist in abundance. I also believe you shouldn't criticise people for springing to the defence of their country - it's the differences that keeps things interesting.

Errrmmmm.....

1) This forum contains an awful lot of stuff which seems to have nothing to do with cyprus, and no one else seems to mind

2) A mod. (Lana) has already posted on this thread, and she didn't seem to mind this thread being here either

General Chat, is for....General Chat. You can talk about whatever you want I would think. So GG can post anything she wants about the US and if Orokliniservices doesn't like it she can feel free to say so. This is not freedom of speech only for our American members :p
