Oh Pantheman.. you really need to sod off!

Maybe one day when there are no more people left to sign up for this "self inflicted work" Maybe just then the world will go back to military drafting.. and your family and friends will be the ones out fighting for your country.. betcha you won't have a cheeky comment to make then... will ya.

Orokliniservices,

I was stating a fact. Are they there out of necessity ? No, they went cos the US wanted whats in Afganistan and we the brits were too stupid to make our own decisions. So, i ask again, do they need to be there ? No? in that case the boys can come home and have no need to be stressed. The UK is in peace time, we have no wars on our shores, so i think it is you that needs the sodding off mate.

If and when that time comes i will stand up and be counted and so will my son, will you and yours is the question ?

People should not confuse the army with the government of the UK!

The army is there to serve the will of the government. The soldiers just do what they are told.

It is possible to be against the war(s) and still support the actions of the army in Afghanistan and Iraq. And as was mentioned, you had better all be glad there are still people willing to join the forces!

What sucks though is the way soldiers are treated by the MoD upon leaving the army. That's why psychological problems are common and why you can get nutters out there in the community, because the MoD just uses the soliders and then spits them out. Shame on you, British Government!!!

Have you ever thought that because of the people in the army you don't have to worry so much about what will happen to you? And have you ever wondered why when you apply for an army school you need one of the highest scores to enter? I would hardly call those people losers. Maybe I am just biased...

You need high scores to become a plain infantry soldier? Sure you need to be from educated to very educated for some jobs in the army but not to be a plain soldier! And don't misunderstand me. I am not talking just about the British but about all professional soldiers in general. And why you are biased? Who is in the military from your family?

Why do you have such a problem with the army, sotos?

Did you used to get bullied when you did your military service, did they used to tease you or something?! Repressed memories, maybe?... try hypnosis it is supposed to help with that :)

I am talking about Cyprus army not British army either. Of course we don't so much have professional soldiers, just permanent officers. My brother went to Evelpidon Army School and he is in the army. Back then he had some of the highest scores that year.

Come on then pantherman whats out in Afghanistan lets hear it..... My son spent 7 months(Enjoyable he told me and have pic's to suit, but alas the nature of his work I cannot show them on here)out in Afghanistan.

Day after day burning hundreds of million's of £ of drugs, if thats not a good thing then the world is really in the shit (having said this I do know that millions still get through), But hey every little bit helps.

Soto's, you would be amazed at the range of educated men and women who join the Forces(Army) just to be a plain infantry Soldier.

Most Soldiers I know(Ex Army 23 years) are not that Bothered about the politics, If they are called upon to go to a Conflict then thats what they do.

With regards(I know this as not been mentioned) to Death's, if you would ask the top brass or any Mil commander that after 3 years' the death toll was 128 then they would take that as a result(the actuall forcast was to be in the thousands).

With regards to the report on the Squaddie's in Pathos , Ok if Guilty they will be dealt with, But I can recall only last year rampaging Cypriot youths causing mayhem in Pathos.

Sleep tight all and relax.

I don't have a problem with the army. I am part of the army too as I will be a reserve until I am 50. I just say that most of those that join as plain soldiers or very low rank are losers that failed to do anything else.

Sotos,

You do the majority of rank & file soldiers a disservice. Serving your country i.e. giving something back, is far better than a lifetime on benefits, or sitting on a blanket with a dog, a can of super strength lager and a cigarette, selling the 'Big Issue'.
