Monty Python on Cyprus. Chapter One.

From outside the castle walls.

“Come on chaps. You know you can’t stay in there forever. Come out with your hands up and we will be lenient with you. Look, if we have to come in and get you it really will be much worse for you so be good chappies and come out.
.
.
. We are brothers and we can live together. We will take you back to Greece and you can resume your work where you left off. In fact there is more work for you to do now because we could not be arsed to do it so you and your children can be sure of employment for a long while to come so open the gates and let us in.
.
.
.
How about this, we will make you honorary Greeks and you can have all the benefits that we enjoy and if you save up your money you can then become a real Greek and forget about this Turkish rubbish. How about it ay! We can’t be fairer than that can we now”.

From within the walls;

“No go away. F**k off and leave us alone”.

From outside the walls;

“ Now that was not very nice was it. I hold out my hand to you as a symbol of peace and brotherhood and you slap me in the face. Let’s try it this way then. You will have all the rights that we have and if any one of you is treated wrongly than you can complain to the proper authorities and, whilst you carry on doing the work that you were cut out for, they can look into it and sort things out within a couple of years. So I don’t see any problems. Your rights are there for you to use”.

From within the walls;

“Can I be president”?

From outside the walls;

“Of course you can if the majority of Greeks vote for you then anyone can be the president. The chances are slim though and I would not want you to get your hopes up too much. We have to be realistic about this”.

From within the walls;

“Well can’t the present president do something that will help me to become president so that I can represent my people"”

From outside the walls;

“I am afraid he can’t do that because that would upset the real Greek people and then there is no telling what might happen to you. If I were you old chap I would not even mention the “Turkish thing” and it might be better if you forgot all about it and become like us. We have no trouble with it so why should you, so be a good man and come out will you”.

From within the walls;

“But we have set up our own government and even built a new government building in which we can make our own decisions”.

From outside the walls;

“WHAT! IF YOU DO NOT OPEN THESE WALLS RIGHT NOW YOUNG MAN I WILL SEND IN MY ARMY TO KILL EVERY ONE OF YOU. HOW DARE YOU BUILD ON MY LAND AND WHO THE F**K IS THIS GOVERNMENT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT”.

From within the walls;

“I am scared now”.

From outside the walls;

LOOK!……..Look, my president has sent me out here to tell you that although it looks like he does not care about you he really does. He loves you very much and wants to look after you and your families. He represents all his people and you lot as well. He asked me to tell you that there is a flock of dragons that are heading this way and they hate Turks and have been sent by the devil himself to come and carry away all your children and burn your houses. And on their backs they carry goblins that will drop within the castle walls and will suck out your Turkishness and will sew your foreskins back on and make you the children of Beelzebub. Do you really want that. Are we not better for you then they are. Are we not here to protect you from them. Look at my face, do I look as if I am going to hurt you. NOW OPEN THE F**KING DOORS AND GET YOUR ARSES OUT HERE NOW!”. Sorry about that….I have not had my tea and am getting a bit cranky. Please open the doors and come out”.

From within the walls;

“No, f**k off!”.

Why don’t you try something more useful like the one thousand and one nights?

Each story earns the pseudo one year of living, just like the Persian Queen managed to postpone her execution by 1001 nights by telling fairy tales to the King.

Well that just about sums up the attitude of some TCs to the Cyprus problem, hiding under the skirts of mother Turkey they think the Cyprus problem is one big joke.

Because........ we want to remain children and never grow up to stand on our own two feet. We are special superior children who don't want to play with our cousins, we just want their toys.
