Bearded for wisdom.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Bearded for wisdom.

Postby Eliko » Mon Jan 15, 2007 3:02 pm

Whenever one wishes to illustrate a wise man, a beard is invariably attached to the facial features, would the members agree with this observation I wonder?, or could it be that such an adornment is merely worn as a protection against telling 'Bare Faced Lies', if so, there is wisdom in that also.

It depends. If the beard is dishevelled then it means the person has more time for thinking than preening. If however it is well kept like that of Makarios then that would imply the opposite. However, the unkempt look could mean simply that the person is just too lazy to shave or to keep his beard looking good. A beard can also hide an ugly man, to a point and therefore an ugly persona because a person at one with himself would not need to hide behind anything. In the case of priests it is just so they can look like a priest that came before them. So to sum up, the only persons that should sport a beard is is a clever but lazy priest that has a personality problem. Makarios in short.

God has a beard, Moses had a beard, Allah (same God) has a beard, even miltiades has a beard (but he will not admit to it as he wishes to remain anonymous!), I think they are quite becoming, what do you think?. :? :? :? :? :?

i love a beard on a man, i think it is sexy. maybe it is that intelligence level. i always thought it was just a masculine thing. i also love a hairy chest on a man. (which is why i love greeks so much!) :-) to me it is just one of those differences between men and women.
when i was a little girl, my grandfather used to tell me to eat the crust on my bread and the potato skins because it grew hair on your chest. i used to gobble it up, in hopes i would grow a hairy chest. good thing he lied!

eliko--i have never really seen a portrayal of god, but jesus had a beard. buddah did not have a beard though. (did he?)
