For those who discussed the attack on Iraq ......

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

For those who discussed the attack on Iraq ......

Postby humanist » Mon Jan 15, 2007 11:19 am

"Back in 1997 and 1998 I publicly spoke out against the actions of the Clinton Administration, which I believed was moving us once again toward war with Iraq. I believe the genesis of our current policy was unfortunately being set at that time. Indeed, many of the same voices who then demanded that the Clinton Administration attack Iraq are now demanding that the Bush Administration attack Iraq. It is unfortunate that these individuals are using the tragedy of September 11, 2001 as cover to force their long-standing desire to see an American invasion of Iraq. Despite all of the information to which I have access, I remain very skeptical that the nation of Iraq poses a serious and immanent terrorist threat to the United States. If I were convinced of such a threat I would support going to war, as I did when I supported President Bush by voting to give him both the authority and the necessary funding to fight the war on terror"

miltiades, what DOES your response to humanist mean?, you continuously present your views on various topics and steadfastly defend your opinions, that is commendable even if sometimes misguided.
The link provided by humanist, is certainly worthy of perusal, I really think you should at least look at it before making such a dismissive retort, who knows, you might even learn something, (come over to our side perhaps?).

Eliko , which side do you represent , and can you please confirm that you are a Cypriot , Greek most likely.
If indeed you are a Cypriot Greek then you will forgive me if I ignore your comments , it is unfortunately a Greek decease that has spread to Cyprus and has continued to inflame and damage our struggle . The anti - American brigade , the entire Greeks of Greece , find solace in their inadequacies by blaming all self inflicted ills on American policies.
I have seen the light , not just the religious one but the political one affecting the fibre of our society.
Do not for a minute forget that had we been on the side of your perceived "enemy " maybe our island would not today be divided.
The horrendous events of 1974 have shown to all but the incredibly naive that having alliances with those that offer not one iota of long term benefit to our nation is a complete farce. We need the powerful to be amongst our friends and we need to shed our historically damaging alliances inherited by our need to follow in the footsteps of Greek politics ( Greece ).

Does that mean, miltiades, that we must close our eyes and minds to reality merely because we have powerful friends?, you have not answered my question, did you take the time to read the link supplied by humanist ?.
Why should you ignore my comments if I am a Greek Cypriot?, I cannot understand the reasoning behind that either, my nationality is an irrelevance since the content of the aforementioned link is an indication of what is taking place in the wider world, I am aware of the lies and deceit which permeates the policies of the powerful allies which you so readily support, please read the link, at least consider it's content before you condemn it, you may find it interesting.

The comment I made regarding you being a Greek Cypriot is relevant since I'm of the opinion that most of us are indoctrinated from a young age with the "americanico daxtilo " nonsense. My own nephews and nieces share this view because their schools and piers have instilled in them that all of our problems are the creation of the American devil. How you interpret reality is based on your vociferous dislike of America and all that the country stands for. I find it utterly incomprehensible for our people to stand shoulder to shoulder with the meek and ineffectual in the name of our perceived notion of what justice its all about. The Greeks (Greece ) have supported through out their recent history every enemy of America. Back in the 60s demonstrations were an every day event in Athens with , Chile , Vietnam , South America , Cuba etc etc.
Let the people know and you understand this : If America decides to recognise the "trnc" THAT IS THE END !
You can demonstrate as much as you like , if America offers recognition our Island is permanently divided.
I , along with other Pro American Cypriots are arduously lobbying those that can influence the powers to be to avert such a catastrophic proclamation by the USA. We need to be on their side and not see them as enemies in order for our voices to be heard.
Let me remind you that some 4 years ago , a Cypriot delegation including the Archbishop visited Cuba where they stood and listened to Castro castigating America while referring to them as our common enemy , to the rapturous applause of the Cypriot delegation , Christophias amongst them. I was flabbergasted , asking my self what possible benefit to our cause did they gain.

it is not just the cypriots militiades
its also the rest of the world.......including americans.....hope you odnt have a problem with quoting BBC

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6286755.stm

The World Service survey, conducted in 25 nations including the US, found that three in four respondents disapproved of how Washington had dealt with Iraq.

...

But among Americans, the number of those who viewed their country's role positively fell to 57% - six percentage points down from last year and 14 percentage points down from two years ago.

Respondents were also asked about the Bush administration's handling of six areas of foreign policy:

* The war in Iraq: an average of 73% of respondents disapproved (57% in the US). Disapproval was strongest in Argentina and France, while people in Nigeria, Kenya and the Philippines were more likely to approve.

* Detainees in Guantanamo: 67% disapproved (50% in the US). Backing for America on this issue was highest in Nigeria, where 49% approved.

* Israeli-Hezbollah war: Washington's role met with approval from respondents in Nigeria and Philippines, but on average 65% disapproved across the 25 countries (50% in the US).

* Iran's nuclear programme: again, support for US actions appeared strongest in Kenya (62%), Nigeria (53%) and the Philippines (52%). But, overall 60% of respondents disapproved (50% in the US).

* Global warming: more than 80% of respondents in Argentina, France and Germany disapproved compared to 56% overall (54% in the US). But the White House had 50% or more support among those polled in Nigeria, Kenya, the Philippines and South Korea.

* North Korea's nuclear programme: opposition to US policy was strongest among respondents in Argentina and Brazil. On average across the 25 countries 54% disapproved (43% in the US).

When asked about US military presence in the Middle East, an average of 68% of respondents across the 25 countries answered that it "provokes more conflict than it prevents".

well... what more can I say besides, i agree with the american people !

cypezokyli , my dear friend , the majority is not always right , a man standing on his own has as much common sense and intelligence as a man standing in a crowd. You must also know that the majority of people in the world are fools !! The majority of Germans after all followed Hitler !!

What do you think America ought to have done after 9/11 ?

America isn't the only country at war with Iraq. England, Spain, Italy, etc all have troops there. And as America had such a devastating attack on them (sep 11th) and England (July 7th) and alot of other countries from these extremist Muslims that are/were based in IRAQ..

I am proud that we are standing up to them and showing them that we won't let them Bomb us, kill our people and pose a threat.. . Did these extrimists really expect us to just let them Bomb us??? What did they think we were gunna do, sit back and all become muslims because they have detinators in their hands?? NO.

I personally don't like Mr.Bush or Blair. And I do believe the way some situations were handled.. were wrong. But I'm sure if a terrorist attack happend in your country, against your innocent people, against your religion, culture and values. You'd be pretty miffed off too. And if you had the POWER of America you'd want to rebel aswell.

There's nothing much else you can do other than a war against them..Even if England closed it's borders, there's prob already some in the country spreading and brainwashing people..There's no talking to them. There's no agreements to be made with them. and they are spoiling it for some of their own innocent ethnic group, that England has become to fear.

We will allow them to have their own beliefs, and culture, etc..But they seem to have a problem with us not wanting to have theirs and keeping our own. They started this problem. Not America.
