Cypezokyli,

I wonder is there anything in Klerides books that has NOT ALREADY been published in newspapers???
I personally read only his first volume (well I admit I have fallen asleep hundreds of times trying to finish it) but I did not find anything in there that was not already known.

Now Bananiot says Klerides says something in his new book about Papadopoulos. That is however simply an opinion not a fact! Such opinions we hear hundreds everyday.

Besides lets not forget Klerides was always after the throne. When he became President after Sampson he did not swear as Acting President but as PRESIDENT. After he learned Makarios was not really dead he tried to correct the mistake. Klerides role in the coup remains dark until today and I don't think he will reveal it in any of his books.
In my opinion Klerides was a person who was always GAMBLING in politics, and whatever would be would be.
His last gabmle with our fate was the Anan Plan.

But hey, if you really want to read something fascinating you can try reading Denktash'es book. Man it starts from his childhood when he was going to his grandmas for summer vocations and the rats were making noise on the sofa all night. Fascinating I tell you, absolutely fascinating and vivid.

Propably Papadopoulos will also publish a book one day.Make no mistake it will contain only 2 lines.
The Anan plan was bad.
The EU leverage was a failure.

You forgot to add that Klerides was a Nazi agent during the second world war (The President's party newspaper accused him of this in 1983, on the eve of the presidential elections). The truth was that Klerides fought within the ranks of RAF and was captured in Germany when his plane was shot down.

Of course, being such a loser, he did not manage to sell Cyprus in the 10 years he ruled it. He would probably have done the job had he won another five year mandate.

Pyrpolyser, your posts are now begining to amuse me. Keep up the good work.

P.S. Looking forward to read Papadopoulos's book, when he decides to write one. He could throw some light as to his activities during the darkest era of the history of Cyprus and he could even tell us how he planned to annihilate the whole Turkish Cypriot community. Rumour has it he suggested to fill fire engines with petrol and start ... extinguishing fires in the Turkish Cypriot villages.

i dont know if theres going to be something new.
and ofcource it is going to be his opinion. besides i dont believe that neautral sources exist out there...everything we read is an opinion.
if you believe that it doesnt worth reading , then dont buy the book.

ofcource he was after the throne. do you know any cypriot politicians who isnt ?
as for the coup, i also grew up believing that he was a "coupist". the more i read , the more i believe that that was not the case. he for sure gave a roof to the coupists in his party an action that i never understood. i also never understood why the coupists who overthrew makarios (whom all considered a maximalist besides them) , later on voted for clerides (who everyone considered to be a moderate...besides them)

when a person has been in politics for so long , no doubt that he will make mistakes. and i believe clerides also made a lot.
it would be interesting to see if he has the guts to acknowledge some of those mistakes.

I wonder whether you will ever be able to write a post that will not include your ghosts' side effects. Do you enjoy living a haunted life?

Cype,

my point is there is no point buying Klerides book just to read things that are ALREADY KNOWN.
I asked if ANYONE has found ANYTHING in Klerides books that has not already been published in newspapers to let me know.

Well?

Just a thought, but why don't we (GCs) try electing someone who wasn't involved in politics in the 1960s. The TCs have done it and it has improved their image internationally. Perhaps we should do the same? Someone in the age bracket 40-50 would be ideal imo.
