G.MAN WROTE:
""""And all cheering Israel when it was bombing the crap out of orphanges, schools and public utilities in Lebanon and Palestine over 2 kidnapped soldiers, when they themselves have kidnapped 11 members of the legal govt of Palestine... """

Will be interesting to have a link so that We too can read the actual transcripts of the Iranian leader.
Perhaps he never said he wants Israel wiped pf the face of the earth , may the UK and the USA have fabricated his speeches. I for one will apologise profusely for comments I made regarding this individual who aspires to become The Nuclear supremo of the region. I think someone else also had such ideas but he is most certainly not hanging around waiting for fruition.
The Iranians are this moment at a very crucial juncture of their history. They will no doubt make the right decision.

Does Israel now publically admit it has nuclear weapons? I thought it never formally admitted this, although it was quite an open secret.

Israel has , by announcing that Nuclear strikes are an option , raised the stakes.
That region has been engulfed in conflict after conflict , lets not forget the 8 year war between Iran and Iraq.
The civil war in Lebanon , the continuing spread of violence in Iraq and Afghanistan. Such dreadful happenings in areas where religion is so predominant. I wonder .

I remember the Iraq / Iran war from when I was a kid, because we used to live in Oman at the time and people were always a little worried about things going on there. Similar distance to the proximity of Cyprus to Israel. I am confident though that no US government - not even the current one - would allow Israel to carry out her threats. What is of more concern in the world I think is the seeming inability of China to keep control over North Korea.

Now thats something we agree on...

Militades, I am sure if you look on wikipedia you will find the CORRECT translation of Ahmadinejads speech..

But to save you looking, the correct translation of the so called wiping out of israel is:

Juan Cole, a University of Michigan Professor of Modern Middle East and South Asian History, translates the Persian phrase as:

The Imam said that this regime occupying Jerusalem (een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods) must [vanish from] the page of time (bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad).

According to Cole, "Ahmadinejad did not say he was going to wipe Israel off the map because no such idiom exists in Persian" and "He did say he hoped its regime, i.e., a Jewish-Zionist state occupying Jerusalem, would collapse."

But I guess it sounds better to a country that wants to invade and get more oil, to publish it as "I will wipe Israel from the map"

I may be wrong, but I am guessing I am one of the few people that visits most of the countries we are discussing here...

I 100% back israeli's rights to live in the area, and for democratic elections for the area...

But what I do not agree with is "turning the tables" ie the treatment of palestinians in ways not to dissimilar to the ways they have been treated historically.

You are indeed correct about the religion aspects tho, after all, religion was what prompted the UK and the US to return israelis to the area after the collapse of the ottoman empire..

Perhaps the UK should reclaim the US after it was stolen from us?

;)

G.Man , do I presume correctly that you have no problems with a nation that still has " stoning "as a death sentence for what it considers as sinful offences , for such nation to possess or to be in the process of developing Nuclear weapons.
I have not checked out the interpretation of Ahmadinejads' speech but find it absurd that the Western media would corroborate to your statement : """But I guess it sounds better to a country that wants to invade and get more oil, to publish it as "I will wipe Israel from the map" """
Are you really suggesting that every newspaper and media channel in the UK has capitulated to the "propaganda" by the Western powers in translating the speech so that they will gain credence in invading Iran. I find utterly unreal and absurd.

G,MAN !!!!!
I found plenty of references to the speech or speeches by Ahmadinejad . I find it quite annoying when someone posts some unsabstuntiated crap on the forum like you did on the interpretaion in order to suit your own prejudices against America.

This is just one of them.
Find much more on Google >wikipedia.

"""Iran leader's comments attacked

Mr Ahmadinejad warned Muslim leaders not to recognise Israel
The European Union and Russia have joined condemnation of the Iranian president's public call for Israel to be "wiped off the map".
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's remark has already been condemned by individual EU states and Canada who all summoned Iranian diplomats for an explanation.

A top Israeli minister called for Iran to be expelled from the United Nations.

The White House said the comment showed the US was right to be concerned about Iran's nuclear programme. """

Exactly what are you motivated by G.Man , you sound more like a Greek than an English man , I take it that you are English .
