End of the road for direct flights from Tymbou (Ercan)

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

End of the road for direct flights from Tymbou (Ercan)

Postby Jerry » Fri Jan 12, 2007 9:07 pm

During the debate on Cyprus on Wednesday 10th January in response to a question to Ann Winterton MP Geof Hoon the Minister for Europe made the following statement:-
“… there are clear international rules and law governing direct flights. It is important that the United Kingdom Government consider the legal position carefully. So far; we have concluded that it would not be possible to authorise direct flights in the absence of agreement by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus. That remains our legal position and legal view. It is clearly important that the United Kingdom Government do not transgress international law in any way.”

The above is a verbatim copy from Hansard volume 455 no. 23 paragraphs 132 and133

Methinks the dear chap is muddling non-stop and direct flights. You can still pick up a direct flight from any number of Turkish airports to Ercan. Where the plane has come from is irrelevant.

So why all the fuss and the 6000+ petition to Tony Blair asking for direct flights?

Err - possibly because people are fed up with the drive to the north and getting searched when they return to the south - I'm totally confused as to why the GC police find my geo and hydrological maps so interesting...... I'm sure Detective Piratis will help me out here......

Just a rough guess Stuart but there's a chance that a person with such maps is involved in the surveying and property business!

Stuard, we are also fed up with the usurping and looting of our very valuable properties and the looting and destruction of our thousands of years old cultural heritage for the last 32 years, but your government -the so-called guarantor one, pretends nothing is happening! They only tell us "touch luck," we only care about the so-called isolation of the “Turkish” north! Yeah, touch luck we repeat as well, and we will be repeating it from now on, even more often! Those of your compatriots that do not like it, they may move back to the grey skies of their homeland, but we do not intent to be the good boys from now on!

We have had enough from the immoral politics of your country’s governments! Damaged people are dangerous, because they know they can survive!

We have made no damage to you, certainly no more than your "motherland" and your historical leadership have inflicted upon you ...and us!

Zan , please remember that 200 thousand of your compatriots have a grievance at being made refugees in their own country. Many T/Cs also have suffered but it is now time for reconciliation.

Is it no damage or no more than? If it is no more than, are you finally taking your share of the blame?
