Petition to Tony Blair

Postby Jerry » Tue Jan 09, 2007 1:14 pm

I have been asked to bring this petition to the attention to users of this forum. Its pretty self-explanitary, perhaps Blair can do something useful for Cyprus before he retires. It goes without saying the more people you forward it to the better.

If Tony Blair wants to do something useful he can authorise direct flight to the north. I would bring this petition to peoples attention if they havent already seen it.

Are you really seriously considering petitioning that incompetent fool? did you not see the result of thousands of people marching in protest against deceptive policies time and again? have you not learned that he is oblivious to any form of reason?.......... Hang him with his buddy Bush, don't waste time petitioning him.

i don't approve of the turkish mainland settlers in northern cyprus but i still think terms like "the humane repatriation of the illegal settlers." don't do this petition any favours - it sounds like a BNP statement. Not saying i disagree - just i find it off-putting.

Eliko, whatever your opinion of Blair (and I'm inclined to agre with you) his country was the former colonial power in Cyprus it has strong ties with the island and as such has influence in the international arena in matters that concern Cyprus. Signing the petition can do no harm, it will help keep the Cyprus Problem on the agenda.

I have been asked to point out that the sponsors of the petition to the UK PM at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/cyprus regret that anyone should take offense to the reference to the "illegal settlers". This petition does not seek to emulate the fascist and ugly policies of the British National Party but to seek a legal redress of Turkey's illegal action in demographic manipulation.

It remains the case that no matter how unpalatable the issue of the settlers is, it remains of concern to many and therefore is an issue that must be faced.

There is also a good chance that the petition will not be presented to Tony Blair but to whosoever replaces him as UK PM in the Summer.
