LIFE IN LIMASSOL

Postby baby chef » Tue Jan 09, 2007 11:02 am

:?: I haven't been in this country, but I heard Cyprus is a beautiful island to work and live... how true?

I am applying for a cook at Le meridien spa and resort, limassol. any feedback about how is it working with the hotel and the place as well?

thanks in advance

I stayed in the Meridian over New Year which is a fantastic hotel and the staff were just wonderful. Couldn't do enough for you and always friendly which is more than could be said for many of the guests. A right miserable bunch on New Year's Eve!

They do work very hard though - we often saw the same waitress working until the early hours, then breakfast, lunch and dinner the next day.

Le Meridien is a nice hotel. Rather large Russian cliental in the Summer. Reception area needs renovating. Corridors, clinical looking, sparse and white. The Spa is great. Staff very friendly. Food expectional. Golf buggies in the car park are ridiculous though. Location is outside Limassol in the Amathous area.

No but there is a walkway to the shops along the sea front which would take about 20 minutes to half an hour. The Meridian is pretty much the furthest away from the shops.

Most of the main shopping areas are a drive away.

Actually not many - lots of Polish and of course Cypriot.

There was one British guy who was a concierge who gave us lifts in his buggy, he was a really nice guy. There were also a couple of other British guys who were 'animators' who looked after and entertained the younger kids - my 11 year old thought he was great. There may have been more in the kitchen but we never got to meet them.

Le Meridien is at the end of limassol, about as far from the town as you can get, after that its just the highway. There is a good bus service that runs down the beach front road and ends at Le Meridien and goes back again. There is one small new shop/ convenience store that opened a couple of months ago near to Le Meridien, its near a place called Thera, if you ask in the hotel they will explian to you. As for clothes shopping etc. you will deff need a car or the bus as it is quite a way, street called Anexartisias should have everything you need. The good thing about Limassol is that it basicly has 3 main roads so its quite easy to learn how to get around. The beach front road, which is the road in front of the hotel, runs down the tourist area, with all the bars, cafes, hotels and restaurants. Then theres Makarios avenue, which has more cafes, and the more picier shops. Then theres Makedonias street, but i dont thing there will be anything of interest to you there, mainly DIY stores, garden centres and electrical stores.
