Turkish Speaking Cypriots are a minority in the North

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I'm glad milk comes in bottles and cartons now, because if anyone tries to drink milk straight from a goat these days, will be arrested for "sexual harassment" on a goat. :D

Exactly right......different times. :)

I feel closer to Kifeas,Piratis, miltiades,Bananiot,Cypezokyli, humanist,Kikapu,Pyro,Alexios et al, in heart and mind than I will ever feel for those poor(not materially) settlers in a million years. And if things go the way it is,and the TC culture is totally assimilated by the Turkish culture,

Yes, I consider Miltiades, Andry_cy to be my friends. I am very fond of Cypezokyli, Bananiot and Pyrpolizer. I would gladly share the same space with these people.

Birkibrisli, you have declared your love for the GC's and the Greek administration. You have made it very clear you resent Turks, our brothers from the mainland. It seems your loyalty and allegiance lies with our neighbours. Why not go all the way, the whole nine yards and become Greek? Changing your name wouldn't be a bad idea. You might want to change your name to Nicoli or Michailidis perhaps. :D

I don't want to speak for Birkibrisli, because I'm sure he will respond himself, after the sun comes up, in "Down Under", but from what I got from his post is, it's not that he wants to become Greek, but that, he wants to remain Cypriot. The TRNC in the long run, will not look, feel, or even taste like Cypriot. How can it be, when the majority will be Turks from the mainland, or have mixed through Turk-Cypriot marriages. TC's will die out eventually, therefore no longer TC's left on the island. Just because someone is born to a non TC in the TRNC, does not make them a "true" Cypriot, when their enviroment looks more like Turkey.

I made a phone call today to a certain Department in the TRNC, and what a got was a recording, made by a Turkish Lady, from Turkey. This is what I'm talking about. Imagine what the place is going to look like in 50 years time.

Birkibrisli believes, and I can relate to him in this regard, that unless the island finds a way to re-unite, what ever method, short of partition, the only Cypriots left in Cyprus will be in the RoC, in the long run. In order to maintain once Cypriotness, one would need to live in the RoC. That's what I believe what Birkibrisli is talking about, as far as relating to the above characters.

Kikapu on Bir.

"""it's not that he wants to become Greek, but that, he wants to remain Cypriot""

That sounds quite familiar , isn't this what I was accused of by at least 3 if not more members on this forum(Alexander -Malacas - Scotseza- Lyssi ) when expressing my feelings for my Cypriot brothers the T/Cs . Bir is above all a Cypriot and I respect him .He does not , most certainly not , come out as anti -Turkish Cypriot any more than I come out as anti G/C. Kikapu has a tremendous sense of humour something we all ought to emulate now and again so here I go . What do you call a man with a stick ?

It is certainly a shame that the TRNC authorities have not issued the breakdown numbers of residents. You can either subscribe to the view that they have something to hide (possible) or to the view that it is down to incompetence (far more likely in my opinion, as this is a common bond between GC and TC government employees). As a result, it is not possible to do anything more than guess at the number of ‘genuine TCs’ versus others in Northern Cyprus.

There is, however, one good indication that the figures quoted at the start of this strand may be a gross exaggeration. In the 2004 referendum almost three-quarters of the TRNC voters voted in favour of the Annan Plan. For this to happen it must have meant that every TC voted for the Plan (unlikely) and that a huge number of ‘settlers’ voted for it too, extremely unlikely considering that if the numbers indicated at the beginning of this strand were correct, many thousands would have been voting to be expelled.

This reinforces my gut feeling, based upon observation, that there are not nearly the number of Turkish immigrants (much nicer phrase don’t you feel) as the GC government like to claim. Could it be that the number is actually less than the number of Pontian Greeks (or if you prefer Greek-speaking immigrants) who I believe number about 60,000?

Pontian Greeks , to you you mean Pontian Gypsies ? Are there indeed any similarities between Cypriots and Gypsies , I wonder.
