Harmony in Cyprus :roll:

(i) Makarios had been the Ethnarch since 1950, a national leader with a tremendous prestige in the Hellenic world. Supporting him meant, among other things, claiming membership (or appearing in public to claim membership) of a great and distinguished nationalist movement which had been glorified and sanctified by the EOKA heroes. To take up a position other than a nationalist one was unpresentable, and possibly harmful.

(ii) Makariosite nationalism, as contrasted to Grivasite nationalism, meant advocating or supporting the idea of a Greek-dominated Cyprus for the foreseeable future. This idea accorded, in one way or another, with the thoughts and feelings of most Greek Cypriots. Many of these people did not really want to be ruled by the Athens Government, for economic, political, snobbish and other reasons; and many others, while wanting enosis if this were offered them, were unwilling to go out to fight for it. So they all repeated after Makarios (to take a typical example of slogan-throwing, taken from his speech at Yialousa village on 14th March 1971):

Cyprus is Greek. Cyprus was Greek since the dawn of her history, and will remain Greek; Greek and undivided we have taken her over; Greek and undivided we shall preserve her; Greek and undivided we shall deliver her to Greece...

We cannot change the past but we can shape the future. It is a matter of whether we want to do so or not and what our personal experience tell us.

Thank you Pyro and Cypez...

I know that his spirit was broken by the Cyprus problem.
I hope his soul fairs better.

I want to share one of my favourite sayings: "Don't take this life too seriously,you'll never get out of it alive!"

If more people believed that... :(

hello insults are the tools of idiots who dont have any valid points to make, 2 can play at that game, we can both be idiots if you wish, what we were trying to establish is a level playing field for both sides but obviously you want to keep the upper hand in everything so you can force your will on the TC community. Unity will not come in 1 day its a gradual process which you clearly do not understand, what you see fit and a right for yourselves should also be granted to the other community if this is not possible then neither side should be allowed that right.

Its dumb with a b not a p....

I am responding to your posts its you that are blind enough not to see the answer, what you advocate cannot be obtained on day 1, a number of stages have to be passed in order to establish trust and understand and creating a level playing field between north and south would be a great start. That's why I suggest we allow the other side the freedoms and rights that we see fit for ourselves until a time we create a united Cyprus for all but denying one side the rights of recognition and the benefits that go with it in order to force them into a solution they do not desire will only breed animosity which is what we have today in 2007. The TCs do not trust the GCs and vice verse is this the equal rights for all you keep going about, just saying it doesn't really mean it will happen, you have to put forward how to get there with ideas and solutions which you obviously are unable to do that's why you revert to personal insults, please miltiades these are the antics of a desperate man.

Common question to me;

"where do you come from".

"Cyprus"

"Oh you are Greek".

It makes my blood boil. What have the GCs done to promote Turkish Cypriotness, nothing. Just Cypriot does not cut it.
