the other 5% of cypriots

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

the other 5% of cypriots

Postby boulio » Wed Dec 29, 2004 9:19 pm

we are all here taking about the greek and turkish cypriots, what about the other peoples of cyprus?armenians, minorites, jews and latins, were would they fall in a settlement and would they be any use in a settlment.as to not so much as a tie breaker but as a potential coalition of partner in a new govt. or say in a supreme court were we can have on minority judge and four judges from each constituent state.I dont know if this sounds correct but if anyone can try to figure out what im saying please and your comment.

My feeling is it is up to the others how they wish to best act in their interests. I don't know about arbitrators in a court. I'm not sure that Turkish Cypriots have seen those communities as being nuetral in the past when there was conflict. What does anyone else think?

I think a fair solution would be to split the power equally.

Every community gets their own say and veto. 20% GCs, 20%TCs, 20% Armenians, 20% Latins and 20% Jews.

That sounds fair, right?

Yeah right on!

Is this the European solution Papadopoulos has in mind?

Honestly though,

can you all help me find this solution in Europe. I've been looking for it everywhere.

Look Magicthrill,

I have already stuck my neck out to say I would prefer for there to be a unitary state with no restrictions on settlement. If you want to oppose federal governnment by all means do so but you are arguing with the wrong person.

By some quirk of Cypriot politics, the Maronites, Armenians and Latins wished to be counted as Greek Cypriots. Therefore they are obliged to follow decisions mae on their behalf by the G/C leadership! As for Jews, Cyprus doesn^t have a Jewish minority at present, but it used to. In the past there was even a Maltese minority!

I think regardless of a solution, the T/C govt should atleast accommadate these religious minorities in the North, they are small and easier to integrate and re-settle. We could start with the Armenians.

I dont see why they should be counted as G/Cs.
