Talat urges return of Greek Cyprus passports

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Mehmet Ali Talat yesterday called on Turkish Cypriots to give back passports and identity cards given to them by the Greek Cypriot administration.

Speaking to Turkish Cypriot Genc TV, Talat claimed that the Greek Cypriot administration is using the passports and identity cards as a propaganda tool in order to deny the existence of the Turkish Cypriots' isolation. "I hope the Turkish Cypriots will organize and tell the Greek Cypriots that they don't want the passports anymore," Talat said.

However, Talat, in a Nov. 30, 2005 interview with The New Anatolian, stated that living conditions for Turkish Cypriots would be eased by the Greek Cypriot passports since they could travel all around the world, saying, "This (Greek Cypriot passport) is their (Turkish Cypriots) right, it is a human right."

Man I feel that there's all these little childish games played by politicians in Cyprus. Talat sends Papadopoulos a gift, Papadopouls sends Talat a gift, they meet in July, nothing happens, they talk about unification yet one asks his people to return passports, the other one fails to acknowledge the existence of the other, even though his people are still not allowed to return to their homes. What on earth is going on?

A load of crap Humanist, that is what is happening. Both of them have become slaves to their own propaganda and are losing the trust of their own people. IT IS LIKE WATCHING THE LAST DEATH THROWS OF A COUPLE OF SNAKES THAT HAVE BITTEN EACH OTHER SEVERAL TIMES OVER.

In the land of dreams, yes, Militiades. I know you mean well but that is the type of rhetoric that gets the TCs blood boiling. Clever words or the closing of ones eyes cannot dismiss us. If you have friends that you do that to what type of response would you expect.

I have a Cypriot Passpost and it sure as day doesnt say GREEK CYPRIOT on it. I dont know what all the fuss is about. If there are TCs who want the darned passports it is their right to have them. DOnt first talk about how awsome it would be for them to have and then urge them to give them back...

miltiades, I say the land of dreams because we both have a dream that all this will end in an amicable way one day and unification can become a reality. The other passport is the one issued by the TRNC although I realise it is only useful in a couple of places it still is part of our make up. If you want to dismiss it out of law then as things stand I can't do much about that but it does still exist until we find a better alternative more and more countries will recognise it.

Anyway good night and sleep tight.
