Are health insurance policies a rip off??

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

I am trying to cost things for when we move over and looking at health insurance but I'm not really sure what we need. Universal Life looks ok, but does the Hospital Plan cover everything I need, or should I really be looking at the Multicare thing? There's a huge difference in price. What do you guys have? What about local doctors - do you have to register with someone locally then just pay whenever you need to go?

You can go to any local doctor. Better to find one in your area that's recommended by someone you know. A GP is purely that. You'll need to find specialist doctors as and when you need them: gyno etc. We use the doctors as St Raphaels in Larnaca. They have all specialists there and as they are under one roof, they liase with each other when you are being treated.

Husband has the Multicare plan which covers visits to the doctor and prescriptions. That's why the premium is higher as you get everything back!

hi, don't know if this helps Dizey, but my research for a family of 4 works out at about £CY170 / month. I've looked at loads and I like the sound of InterGlobal. They seem to cover most things at their (middle)comprehensive level and some dental stuff which Bupa don't seem to. Found them through www.medibrokers.co.uk
who search loads of them for you. Also try Abbeygate brokers and www.medexpat.com also brokers.

My husband was involved in a road accident 6 years ago and the BUPA cover has been fantastic. We had taken out before the accident. I don't know what would have happened without it as the compensation (he was a passenger) still hasn't materialised to pay for these things.

The other end of the scale - we also paid a fortune into critical illness cover, life insurance and income protection but I was told none of these would help with an accident so in the meantime you could loose your house, business etc which was not what I needed to hear at the time.

We have paid out a lot less in BUPA premiums than the costs for treatment have been. When he needs treatment it is done in nice private hospitals which makes it easier.

You really don't know what is round the corner - don't risk it.

He's good - looking forward to the move which we hope will relieve his aches and pains. He often says he would like to visit you so watch out we may land on your doorstep!

Shopping has kind of been put on hold while we save our pennies and unfortunately I am still having to work hard. That's life as they say!

I'm sure I'll be back to full shopping form when we're settled though!
