Insurance companies arent allowed to make a profit for their shareholders?

After all, when there is a big disaster they make huge losses and their shareholders lose money..

Sorry, but good insurance companies are not a rip off... in return for your £300 premium they might end up paying you thousands..

And often do!

The most wonderful thing about them, is if you dont want insurance, you don't have to take it, you can self insure... Nobody forces you to take comprehensive cover on your car/house body etc...

Just make sure you have adequate reserves of cash just in case..

with all these Polish/Pontian/Bangladeshi/etc drunken pricks opening cars stealing stuff and Turkish Cypriots even stealing whole cars (few cases) i had to concider full coverage which would cost me about 450CYP a year.
Cmon, this would never happen before all EU crap, i used to leave car open and a house too..

There are lots of threads about this. I have Liberty Life through work and my hubby has Universal. Both are competitive and pay out for even the smallest claim. Pregnancy cover only available after the first 10 months of cover. End of the day.....you get what you pay for!!!

If you think logically about it, insurance is never cost effective, in as much that the premiums paid in must always exceed the payments made out, as the insurance company has to factor in also: administrative costs, profit and a premium for risk.

The reason we do insure is to mitigate the risk if we are unfortunate enough to have to make a BIG claim; it is so we can sleep at night.

Thanks everyone. The company i work for are trying to organise cover for all 16 of us, half to be paid by us, and half by the company. I understand that i will have to be insured for 10 months before pregnancy, thats ok. Apparently BUPA is expensive so they are against that one. My boss had a fall out with Cypria Life so they are out of the question, so that just leaves Universal, Aliko (hellenic bank) and Eurolife. The guy fron Universal told me that they only give 650 for pregnancy and the way the gyno's are becoming rip off/s like everyone else in this country, and charging 1,600 looks like i better get saving! thanks n e way. If any of you out there happen to be insurance ppl, please tell me if you have any plans that would suit me and if you accept single insurance policies, i.e not as a company. Sounds strange but i called Aliko and they said that i had to be part of a group to be insured for pregnancy which i thought was quite strange.

That's not right what Universal have told you. Depends on the policy though. Comprehensive C covers PG upto to 1,600. Libertylife covers the same. Try this company as well www.ihi.com. They are through Laiki and are really comprehensive covering teeth and eyes. Bit pricey though. Last year I did a huge project on insurance comparisons for my company. Libertylife and Universal came out the best. We compared 7 companies in total for 40 members of staff and their families. It was a long and difficult process but worth it. Let me know if you need any general breakdowns on the companies/policies offered.

Thank you so much. The comprehensive C you mentioned, i presume it was for a group plan. I dont suppose you know if its the same for a single policy, or if you have a contact name and number for me to call them? Im only 25 (was my birthday yesterday!!!) so i dont think the policy will be that much. 1,600 sounds good, that'll cover the pregnancy, ill be surprised if it really is that much though as i wasnt expecting that much, id be happy even if they said they would cover 8-900.

Universal in Larnaca is 24 669640. The C plan is for a group and individual. Their coverage is the same whether it is for a group or individual. The difference is the premium, obviously for a group the premiums are lower.

Annually routine tests - blood test (max CY80), PAP and Mammogram. Covers100% inpatient & day care hospitalisation, surgeons, anaethetist, ITU. Accommodation for parent if child under 11. Must be preauthorised if nonemergency
