need help choosing satellite TV

:D
Have recently bought an apartment in Geroiskipoy and would like some advise on satelitte TV. We have a 3m dish on the roof and will be using the apartment for ourselves and family so will require news, movies and programmes in English for holidays.
As we are only using the place for holidays we don't want to spend a fortune. What are our best options? My boyfriend and I hope to move to Cyprus eventually as it is the friendliest, warmest island I have been to (and I have travelled to just about everywhere on the planet).

ive been looking into it as well recently. I think Athinsat is quite good value for money as its 23 CYP per month, and it has BBC prime as well as news channels

Not heard of that one. a friend in UK has just told me that if I take over an unsubscribed Sky box (cost £200) anyone with a Sky card can use their card in it from the UK but I want to be able to get other channels just in case we have anyone staying who doesn't have Sky or can't take their card with them.
I have heard of an Arabic subscription which gives English movies and is quite cheap but can't remember the name.

I wish it was as easy as your friend states.

First of all the viewing card is only good for the sky box it's been matched to -- also your friend is a bit off the mark with sky box prices.

Out of contract boxes can be bought on ebay for around £50 -- a new non contract pace box for around the £120 mark -- or even less if you shop around -- this is GB prices -- bought in UK

Hi there

Me and my better half have just bought a pad in Pissouri and will one day leave this crap and move to Cyprus. So I am pretty interested in what comes back. If you have other info let me know. £23 CYP per month for the bare package is expensive.

If you have a 3m dish you may as well have a Sky system – get a digibox in the UK and a ‘Freeview’ card which will give you access to a wide range of channels.

We tried a number of different options before ending up with a Sky system – BBC Prime is awful after the first month or so!

Thanks everyone for the response. i was told that a normal Sky box will only accept the card it is subscribed to but if you buy a non-subscribed box you can use any card in it. this is what a friend of mine has done at his holiday home in the Canaries. Everyone who goes takes their own card and uses it there.
Freeview sounds like a good option but i was worried about what channels you could actually get as Cyprus is very far south of what they call the footprint of the signal so you can only get certain channels at certain times of day.
