the land problem becomes even more complicated

after the attempt of 4 tcs to sue the RoC at the ECHR another legal battle is added to a political problem.

last night there was a quite interesting discussion from aggelidis, kliridis, georgiadis and pourgouridis. all of them were worried about the current situation.

what do you think ?
hows things going on the legal battlefield ?

I think its all really confusing, to be honest after all the confusion of the war in 74, the government just wanted the refugees out of the tents and started giving them land and houses that belonged to the tc's, without thinking about the implications long term. My personal view on all this has always been that ok, fine the houses and land were neeeded to get the people back on their feet, but all the second and third generations or refugees now have more than enough financial means to be able to get their own properties. I know many who have 2 houses and are still being given a plot by the government. I think the whole idea of giving land to todays refugees is something that the government should realy re-think.

Cypriot government can not ask the occupied houses back without givin back the t/c houses as they were in 1974. In case that a house or land can not be given back then it will have to give another one back to their owners.

The situation is not getting complicated it is actually straightened out.
Who can ever refuse anyones right on his property, either be him TC or GC.

On the other hand who gave any TC or GC the right to live on someone elses property without the permission of the owner?

Those TCs who now go to the ECHR will be counter-sued locally by the owners of the houses/lands they were using for 32+ years. And they will be sued by the INDIVIDUALS themselves. Yes they would propably get 7 million compensation from the ECHR on the other hand they will have to consider how much they will pay for grabbing someone elses property in the occupied.

And i tell you if one TC is finally sued, thousands more will follow.

I think that all Cypriots ought to have the right to return and reclaim their properties. If they dont't want to return then sell it off at current market value or hold on to it, if the property has been used for public services such as aiport, hospital, employment office etc the rightful owner ought to be given apprpriate current value compensation.

The three brothers are Cypriots and can live anywhere in Cyprus so I do not think they need to be compensated but have their property returned to them and if they desire have the original buildings reimbursed in todays value and knowck down the current dwelling if it was added onto the land after 1974. I think this is the fairest way to deal with the issue. thus far we have been in war now lets see which side can top the other in kindness and bring the people together.

Perhaps the Greek Cyrtpiots who onen the properties these brothers are living in if they are, can return to their properties if they wish.

The fact is there is a small minority among the Gcs who profits from the TC properties. On the other hand those TCs who profit from the GC properties in the occupied is NOT a small minority but the majority.

I say let the sueings start.

What in the same way that Makarios forced me out of my country and still you guys want compensation from me. Perhaps we should all stop demanding compensation
