I have few more questions....

Is it safe to drink the water from the tap in the RoC and TRNC....?

Are other currencies accepted in the TRNC, other than Turkish Liras....?

It appears, if I enter the TRNC, I will have to sometime in the future, either pay £4,000 pounds and do NO military service....or

Pay £2,000 pounds and do 1 month military service....or

Pay nothing, and do 3 month military service....

All this, at age 52, by the time I get there.

Will the RoC expect something similar from me, or what?

water : in RoC yes you can drink it.

currency : yes. you can use cyprus pounds.

army : i am not a tc :) but i believe you have to serve only if you stay in cyp for a certain period of time (i think more than 3 months) . no in the RoC you are not expected to serve in the army

That's a relief, as far as the RoC goes........

I was also under the understanding about the 3 months stay rule, to avoid military service, but got so many different versions from different people, it became not so clear anymore. So a call was made to the "ASAL SUBE" in TRNC who oversees the Military issues by other family members, who speak better Turkish than myself, and was told as to what was expected from those above the age of 49 years old, as I wrote earlier.

Me, in the Army, after age 52.!! I feel like one of the characters in the old English TV shows "Dad's Army"

Kikapu , most people drink mineral water , although there is nothing wrong with Cyprus water.
I suggest you stick to cold beer and white wine , much more up lifting than boring tasteless dull water !
Cyprus pounds are I believe gratefully accepted every where in Cyprus .At 52 I dont think they want you in the army ! Have a great time , lets us know when you are planning going there.

Sorry Miltiades, I don't do Mobiles.!!

What I mean is, I have never owned a mobile phone and I also do not like to use them, hence not getting one thus far. I can count on my hand the number of times that I could have REALLY used one, otherwise it is the home phone or pay phone with a calling card.

I can't believe the number of people spend so much time on their Mobiles, that we are forced to listen to their stupid conversations. Those that need it for business, fair enough, but for the remaining 99.9%, they are just causing "noise pollution".

I should be in the TRNC in the first week, and the ROC, in the second. We'll talk closer to time of departure, to see how things are going with your time.

Sure Cypezokyli. I'm near Zürich, where are you in Germany, to get some idea which would be the closest crossing point. Most of the crossing points are 45 minutes to 1 hour from where I am. We can meet along the border, German or the Swiss side.
