WHY I SAID YES TO THE ANNAN PLAN

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

While I understand the anger and the frustration which is behind the veiled threat of War "when the balance of power changes",I can't but despair that some people see war as a way to achieve a just and durable "peace"...A large scale armed conflict will be the final disaster in Cyprus.Whoever wins it will be only a phyrric victory, and the wheels of anger and resentment will turn again...Sometimes I think we are not at all interested in finding a solution. We just want revenge,to rub the other side's nose in it!

We are where we are because we allowed others to manipulate us via blind nationalism, because we let people divide us along ethnic lines to stop us from becoming one people and one nation. The only way to a durable peace in Cyprus is by shedding our ethnic identities, and embracing our true nationality.we are Cypriots.Cyprus is our motherland. We have no other land to call our own.We share a common history, culture, traditions, sense of humour,folklore,cusine,mentality...you name it. Yet our two differences (language and religion) are two chains on our minds and hearts.Keeping us ties to imaginary "motherlands" and ethnic cousins.Unless we break these chains we are doomed. One day in not so distant future the nation of Cypriots will be extinct. We will be all Greeks or all Turks.Make no mistake about that.

What if all Cypriots spoke both languages and learned both religions?
Is it really that inconcievable that with our huge human brain we can manage to take in two languages and two religions, and learn where to use which to our best advantage. If we really wanted to create a nation of Cypriots, would it be that difficult to start planning for it now instead of bickering about the terrible events in the past and the fears for the future.

Starting from tonight (it's 1.18 am down under) I will do everything practical and possible to learn Cypriot Greek, and to learn all about the Orthodox religion. And I will encourage my 3 children to do the same.
This will be my little personal contribution to the future nation of Cypriots.
Anyone care to join me???

Let me explain this "peace" fallacy you have in your brain in a scientific way: You have a big rock hanging from a string on top of a 10 storie building. It is at rest isn't it?It is in a state of "peace" isn't it?

Now do you know how much it takes to fall down on your head?

Do you understand that rock has what science calls "a potential"? Do you understand the rock will never be in "peace" unless it falls down?

If you are going to be scientific then at least include all the factors. There are Probabilities in this factor. The string could break. Gravity could fail. We could take the string from around our necks and the rock could fall on others heads. The list could go on infinitely. We have to wait and see rather than kick the rock off ourselves and find we not only hang but somehow the rock lands on our heads as well.

For as long as Cypriots like us exist , a solution with mutual respect and understanding will be found. The process of achieving a solution must be carried out in an atmosphere highly charged with compassion , mutual respect and a common motherland , our beloved Cyprus.

mrfromng , recently lost an uncle in the UK whose last wish was that he should be buried in his beloved Cyprus , our Cyprus Birkibrisli the land that we were born and took our first breath.

You have my utmost respect my dear friend.

Birkibrisli,

I apologise if my post looked like as if I wanted to pose some veiled threads but how could I explain to VP that what we have now is not really "peace". This "peace" thing is a sophistry invented by Denktash. According to VP lets continue as we are we have "peace" everything is fine. The truth is we dont have real peace. If this situation continues sooner or later there will be war.

I personally don't want that. I want everybody to get his rights.

On a side note I admire your posts. I consider you a voice of wisdom in here.

Just trying to prove the age old fact that for every action there is an equal and oposite reaction except in this case we are both being stupid.

And this war thing is something that is invented by idiots to scare the children. War cannot happen for many reasons and the RoC being in the EU is one of them. You can make as many "threats" as you like it is simply not going to happen.
