bg turks continue to be denied freedom of movement

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Piratis » Wed Jan 03, 2007 8:35 pm

Piratis,
Why are you not arresting British Citizens and TC's who live in the North when they cross to the south? They are committing illegal acts are they not? Surely you must be consistent in the application of your laws or they are meaningless. Or is it that the ROC is too scared to open that particular can of worms. I will volunteer myself to be arrested by the ROC next time I am in Cyprus and when I cross over to the south having flown into Ercan-I bet they wouldnt dare arrest me.

RoC has arrested British and other foreign citizens that have committed illegalities in occupied areas many times, and personally I believe the arrests should intensify.

RoC is doing a favor to TCs. If you personally don't want to have this favor, and you have committed illegalities, then you can turn yourself to the police and let them know about your illegalities and tell them that you to not wish to take advantage of the favor that RoC is doing for TCs. But you can not ask that because RoC is doing a favor to you (because you are RoCs citizens) that the same favor should apply to everybody else as well.

Piratis,
They are EU citizens now and can freely go to every part of the EU as you keep pointing out to the Turks you must abide by all the rules not just the ones that you like.
You still havent answered me about my position-should the ROC arrest me when I enter the country from the North.Do you enforce your own laws. Yes or No?

Sure, this is what I said: Let them come and arrest them for the illegalities they committed = apply all the rules.

I answered. RoC makes an exception and a favor to TCs as goodwill, hoping that TCs will respond with goodwill as well some day.

There is an ancient Cypriot proverb that says " na poume ke tou stravou to dikeo"
Simply translated it means "Give the blind man his dues "

Here we have a situation where a foreign army of some 40 thousand troops , having used force to impose their jurisdiction and authority against the wishes of the legally recognised government of Cyprus , on the part of Cyprus that the International community , including Europe , consider as part of the ROC but under occupation by Turkey. I'm not saying anything other than what is Internationally accepted. Now here we have foreigners arriving in this part of Cyprus , demanding that the have bestowed upon them the rights afforded by the EU. You cant have it both ways. The airport in question is considered internationally as a non recognised entity , are you really suggesting that the Cypriot governments accepts the legality of such entry point when every other single nation on earth does not recognise. I think we should see the other side of the coin too.
When Turkey stubbornly refuses to recognise a nation , a full member of the EU , UN and every other international point then it is futile and pointless to expect the Cypriot government to grant the illegal entrants into it's soil a legal status . The division of Cyprus is not acceptable to the vast majority of Cypriots . The Bulgarian or other nationals who come to Cyprus ought to do some home work before embarking on their trip.

Piratis,
I didnt realise I was being given this unfair favour by the ROC-I should be more grateful in the future. However being the cynical person I am I suspect that they are doing it not for my benefit but because its a law they cant enforce and they would look stupid if they tried. Thats probably more like it than them trying to do the TC's a favour.

You cannot arbitrarily arrest hundreds of EU citizens, any such act would cause outrage in Bulgaria, and in Europe, and would further marginalize the Greek Cypriot administration within the European Union.

You have overused the word "illegal" so much that it is rendered meaningless. Bulgarian Turks are not illegal entrants according to any EU law.
Besides the occupation is not our problem, it is yours. You had an opportunity to unite, you missed it, now deal with it. Why are Bulgarian Turks to pay for your stubborn intransigence?

All Bulgarian citizens today are free to travel as they wish, regardless of their ethnic origins, and by EU law the Greek Cypriot administration is obliged to guarantee them free passage. Failure to do so would have legal ramifications in the European Courts.
