Snake Help ? ( In Paphos )

OK people , I was walking down the street in cyprus walking near amuthus hotel and a massive brown skinny snake sliverd out from the bush at the time i near a resteront called rib shack and it tried to bite me.
It was dark brown and slitherd fast and it was after a lizard , it had darker brown stripes.

Could anybody tell me what snake it could have been ?
If i had a picture i would tell you but unfortunatly i havent ( Sorry ) lol

I think most snakes in Cyprus are not poisonous. But I don't know about the one you saw. I am not an expert in snakes :D

I agree with devil, im not sure how a snake would be out and about at this time of year. Did it have criss crosses on its back, diamond shapes?. If it didnt its not poisonous. Im thinking it could be a breed of lizard that is long and has tiny legs, there is such a thing and i know its brown.

Strange. My mum saw a brown snake in Limassol last week. She too was surprised due to the time of year, but the winter has apparently been so mild so far that this brown species may not have gone into hibernation or whatever they do.

Soz for not answering sooner ! :(
But it was actully last year and iv been searching and now one actully nows what type it is. As i only go on holiday to cypurs im not a expert on it lol

so if you find anthing about the snake just tell me :) ( i saw the snake in 2006 June 17 ) I stoped at avanti village.

it'll be a whip snake, next time you see one hit it with the flymo :-D

No way! It keeps down the blunt-nosed viper and rats and mice. Don't take this guy seriously, he's been smoking bad stuff.
