Contact Selectrics in Larnaca. They go all over the island. They did our camera and security system and will come out in an emergency 24/7. Things have changed in Cyprus :(

I'm interested in the fact that you are opening a stationary shop in Cyprus.

I will be taking early retirement at the end of this month and moving to Cyprus soon after --- I've been thinking of starting up something i.e. a small business myself but can't quite decide what it will be as I've seen so many small businesses go bust in Cyprus within the first 12 months
As you have obviously given your proposed business venture some thought could you answer one or two of my questions regarding this.

Is there a need for a stationary shop in the area you have chosen.

What exactly will you be offering for sale

Will the prices you will charge compare with items available at the major supermarkets.

Who will you be targeting as customers -- expats or Cypriots.

If the answer to above is everybody - are you of Greek descent- do you speak fluent Greek.

I understand quite a lot of Greek and speak a little but I'm personally worried that it won't be enough to communicate with Cypriot customers and will have a major impact on sales.

It's quite a worry investing in something that may not work even though I will have my company pension from the UK to help support me.

So I haven't really decided on what to do although I want to try something to keep me occupied whilst I'm resident in Cyprus.

As I've been a employee working for a nationwide company in the UK all my working life I would love to realise a life long dream to start up a small business of my own -- sadly the work skills I have are not relevant to any industry in Cyprus -- so it will have to be something completely different to what I'm used to.

As for your comment of there's no crime in Cyprus -- well there is and it's getting worse -- but it's miniscule compared to the level of the UK and for all intents and purposes you could say there's none worth speaking about.

You are not likely to see someone mugged / stabbed or shot outside your shop in Cyprus ( unless you live near the Limassol / Nicosia mafia ) but you may experience some petty theft from the shop.

I'd be interested in your comments and perhaps a location of your shop .

There is a very nice new Stationary shop in Oroklini. Prices are reasonable they sell a large selection of books, pens, markers, greeting cards, writing papers, scrapbook materials.. really a very nice shop. Go to the main street in Oroklini, past chemist and bank of cyprus, flower shop, it's in the building next to the supermarket across from the mobile phone/computer shop. Not sure of the name of it but visit, it's lovely!!

Thanks for that oroklinisevices I'll give it a look as it's only a short distance from Larnaca and I have some friends who have just moved there and will of course visit next time I'm in Cyprus.

Do they have fax and copying facilities as well -- this is something I always have problems finding in Larnaca.
