Let me wish you all a Happy New Year in 2007. We can all wish each other the very best, I'm sure.

This time last year, in 2006, there were also many Happy New Year wishes, that were made for 2006. Well, we all know individually how all our lives fared in 2006. But there were almost another 1,000 families in the USA, who also wished Happy New Year to their families, but as it turned out, it was infact not a Happy New Year at all. Because those 1,000 families lost their sons and daughters in Iraq this year. Then there were another 10,000 or so soldiers, who were seriously wounded, and will carry this war with them for the rest of their lives.

Today, more families will be wishing each other Happy New Year for 2007 in the USA, but little do they know, another 1,000 troops will lose their lives in Iraq, with many thousands more seriously wounded. Which family is going to be the first to go from Happy New Year wishes to become a family in pain within hours of the New Year, with the death of the first soldier in 2007, with another one thousand to follow for the rest of the year.

I wish all our soldiers would be safe and return home soon, but this wish will not come true for me or many of our soldiers in 2007.
