Import dutie on car and bike?

Postby AL » Sat Dec 30, 2006 3:33 pm

:) Hello to everyone, hope you all had a nice xmas.
Can anyone help me with a bit of advice about importing my car and bike?
I was recently over visiting when someone I know said that you cannot bring you car over if older that 5yrs, is this true? Its the first Id heard of this. Also roughly how much would it be to import a corsa 1ltr, 4yrs old and my bike, triumph sprint st 995i also 4yrs old. Would it be cheaper to sell up and buy in Cyprus.

Over 5 years is not a problem as far as I know...

From EU the vehicles will be duty exempt if you have evidence of owning and driving them for 6 months in EU country..

Definitely not cheaper to sell and buy in cyprus...

1ltr corsa would be approx 500 in duty if you did have to pay, bike not sure on as its just gone up for bikes over 600cc, may well cost more than the car!!!

The Corsa is probably worth bringing but the last I heard there is no longer a Triumph agent (& very few Triumphs) in Cyprus so unless you're pretty handy on the spanners you might want to unload it and buy here.
