Season's greetings to you to too Pyrpolizer. Do you feel any different with your new "lecturer" status? :lol:

FYI Turkish is not an official language. There are a few TCs currently in legal action vs RoC/EU for failing to ensure it is, which goes against RoC 1960 Constitution.

As for "Peace Crimes" I am not saying I agree/disagree, but this lighthearted thread is about PapaD using marketing to improve his/RoC/GC standing and if he is constantly associated with Denktas (which these days he is), mud sticks! Of course, better to focus on good then bad, but given context of this thread...

Rude,
I think its supposed to be an official language in Cyprus in theory but in practice it is not hence the legal action.

Piratis,
How about this to help improve relations. A TV and Radio station entirely in Turkish broadcast from the ROC -the few hours a day you have currently is pittiful.

@Rudegal,

That's why I said "technically" Turkish is an official language already. The same way Gaelic which is the first official language of Ireland is "technically" an official EU language but practically it is not . It will be begining of 2007. All a country has to do is just ask for it. I am not sure if the EU has to approve it immediately and start providing translations of their legislature in that new language though, and who is going to pay the costs involved.... FYI Spain is now asking for 3 new Spanish languages Basque, Catalan and Galician to become official EU languages.

As for Papadopoulos being equal to Denktash this is just the TCs point view, and I don't think the majority of GCs would agree. For the GCs Talat is no different that Denktash, but even in this case there are not many TCs who would agree.

The point is that the official languages of every member state according to Eu aquis automatically become official EU languages. What the EU does however is it just plays dump and unless asked and pressed for, they limit the "official" languages for practical reasons. It seems there is a contradiction of terms here concerning official and "official" the later being the one that all legislature has to be translated and the former just on paper.

You're right. I seem to forget these little details, such as the Constitution. :)

Perhaps it is all the better reason for the two sides to get together and make some changes to the Constitution, that can better serve everyone, and even create a better living conditions for all concern. It can be a win-win situation.!!
